GDC Darhal organized plantation drive to commemorate "Kargil Vijay Diwas"

JAMMU, July 26: The NSS unit (IMDAD) of GDC Darhal organized a tree plantation drive with an aim to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas which is celebrates every 26th july in India to observe India's victory over Pakistan in the Kargil war for ousting Pakistani forces from their occupied positions on the mountain tops of Northern Kargil District in Ladakh in 1999.The program was organized under the banner of " Mere Mati, Mera Desh" Initiative. The faculty and NSS volunteers of the college took part in the event with great zeal, enthusiasm and fervour. The event started with a cleanliness drive in the college campus followed by plantation drive. More than 50 indigenous plants were planted in the shape of vatika at the each corner in the premises of Govt. Boys Hr. sec. school Darhal.
The entire program was organized under the able guidance of Prof. Mussaraf Hussain Shah, esteemed Principal of the college. While addressing the students he exhorted that planting saplings would protect the well being of the society and build a greener and brighter future for the State and the Nation and it would be a step towards safeguarding the integrity of the Nation. Dr. Ahsan Ul Rehman Rizvi, Senior faculty member added that it is our homage and gratitude to the martyrs of Kargil war who defended the Nation and led us to victory. This country will always remember the sacrifice, courage and valor of our brave soldiers. Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch ( NSS PO) coordinate the event and appricate the efforts of the NSS volunteers for playing a vital role in the upliftment of the society as well as Nation. While speaking on the occasion he said that Kargil war heroes plantation drive is a part of Meri Mati, Mera Desh initiative and was a token of respect in the memories of 527 soldiers who martyred in the Kargil war and we pledged to plant trees as homage to these noble souls. At the end of the event the students, NSS volunteers and staff of both the institutions took a pledge to adopt and take care of atleast one plant each. The staff members and NSS volunteers who made the event successfull were Dr. Ahsan Ul Rehman Rizvi, Prof Makhdoom Ahmed, Prof. Tahir Mahmood, Jameel Ahmed, Waqar Ahmed, Mahboob Sadeeq, Shaheez Ahmed, Sayra jabeen, Aleena Anjum, Samira Kosser and Rabia Kosser.
