| Academy mourns poet Bashir’s death | | | Early Times Report
Poonch, Jan 24- Veteran Urdu Writer, Poet and religious scholar Kh. Bashir Bhat died today after a long illness. He was 58. According to family sources he was suffering from acute bone infection for the last two and a half years. Being a eminent writer of Urdu, Pahari and Gojri, he had contributed a number of writings highlighting the socio-cultural ethos of Poonch and Rajouri. He had done a remarkable work for promotion and propagation of Urdu in the State. He was considered an authority on Urdu and Persian in the area. Born in Mandi town 20 Km from Poonch, Bashir Bhat was a professor of Urdu in Education department. Being an educationist he had worked hard for dissemination of education and knowledge in the State in general and in Poonch district in particular. A condolence meeting was organized at the headquarters of Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and languages today in which various speakers paid rich tributes to departed soul. Highlighting the role of Bashir Bhat in the promotion of Urdu and other languages of the State, Zaffar Iqbal Khan Manhas, Secretary Academy stated that his writings represent our pluralistic culture and values. Although his mother tongue was Kashmiri but he had contributed to Urdu, Gojri and Pahari as well, he added. Dr. Javaid Rahi, National Secretary Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation, Khalid Mir and Shokat Mir, President and Secretary Bazam-e-Hasrat Poonch also condoled the demise. Young Urdu poet Shiekh Khalid Karrar, Gojri poets Noor Mohammad Noor, Sadiq Wasil, Amin Qammar and Pahari writer Farooq Anwar Mirza also condoled the death of Bashir Bhat.
