| Employees unlikely to call off proposed strike | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 24: Despite an assurance from the Finance Minister who also emphatically sought cooperation from the government staff, the employees are gearing for strike on January 27 and 28. Majority of employees leaders on Saturday gave clear indications that they are going ahead with their strike plan and under no circumstances would surrender their demand. Addressing small gatherings of state government employees at various places representatives of various joint action committees of the state government employees announced that on January 27-28 the state government employees across the state would sit on strike and join protest demonstrations to expose the tall claims made by both the coalition partners in the run up to the Assembly polls. Ram Kumar Sharma addressing a gathering of state government employees outside press club here said former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad always claimed that he was ready to enhance the age of retirement of the state government employees and agreed in principle to implement the sixth pay panel report. Sharma said after the National Conference-Congress coalition government took shape the state government employees were given to understand that the decision will be taken during the first cabinet meeting. Sharma said as the state government employees are intensifying their stir the state government has adopted a strategy to buy more time by claiming that they were still studying the financial implications of the decision. Another employee leader Rashpal Singh said that the state government employees are ready to go ahead with their strike plan and under no circumstances they would retract and postpone their agitation in support of their long pending demands
