| Johar’s ‘Poorav Aur Pashim' staged in weekly Sunday theatre series | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 25: 'Poorav Aur Pashim'- a super comedy written by famous Filmi comedian I. S. Johar was staged here today under the direction of Balwant Thakur in Natrang's weekly series 'Sunday Theatre'. Before the commencement of the program, rich tributes were paid to noted playwright and Dogri litterateur Jatinder Sharma on his untimely demise. Late Jatinder Sharma was the founder advisor of Natrang (1983-1987). He was one of the individuals who helped in laying a strong foundation for Natrang. Two minutes silence was observed for the peace of the departed soul. The play 'Poorav aur Pashim' showcased the contrast of beliefs between east and the west world. Lala Ram Bhrose and his wife are highly superstitious and on the contrary their married son and two daughters believe in the reasoning, logics and scientific way of leading the life. A firm believer of horoscopes, stars and numbers, Ram Bhrose is always surrounded by the palmists, fortune tellers and priests. Confusion starts in the family when a horoscope reader based on a wrong information predicts the early death of Ram Bhrose He goes to the extent of telling him that his killer will come from the east side and will give him some substance of white color. In defense Ram Bhrose blocks all east entries to the house and start suspecting even his family members offering him any thing in white. This behavior of his creates unhealthy environment in the family and life becomes hell for everyone. Despite all efforts of convincing him with scientific reasons and logics, he is not ready to buy anyone's arguments in the family. One after the other incident creates high tension and Ram Bhrose goes to the extent his family members. This funny drama attains anti-climax when the horoscope reader comes to him apologizing for telling him the fortune of someone else as he was mistaken by assessing some other date of birth. Finally the fortune teller is treated with a big thrash by all the members of Bhrose family. Among actors Rohit Verma while playing the role of Ram Bharose enliven the whole dramatic action with his highly energetic performance. Mohit Sharma created the typicality of a funny character of fortune teller with his innovative improvisations. Tajasvi Sharma played the character of Ram Bhrose's wile with full confidence and conviction. Others who performed well included Ritesh Dogra., Vansheen, Divya Kohli, and Anita Dhar. The lights were designed by Gaurav Jamwal and executed excellently by Rahul Singh. The show was coordinated by Hemant Bholla. |
