1/25/2009 10:41:59 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Jan 25- The computer training centre set up by the Sharda Kendra at Anand Nagar has been instrumental in imparting training to about 500 youths so far which has enabled them to get gainful employment. Since the centre is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi Shikshya mission those trained here do not find it difficult to get employment even outside the state.
This was disclosed by A.K.Tikoo, President Sharda Kendra, here today at a function held in the memory of the martyrs of 1947 tribal invasion on Kashmir. Tikoo said that within less then four years, Sharda Kendra was able to set up a library and a publication unit which has so far published several books on the history, culture of Kashmiri Pandits.
Noted scholar Dr A.N.Pandita, while addressing the meeting, dwelt on the background of the tribal invasion and on the atrocities committed on innocent people in Kashmir by the invaders. He recounted the supreme sacrifices rendered by the troops led by Brigadier Rajinder Singh pushing the invaders who had reached the outskirts of Srinagar. Other speakers described the tribal invasion as the first exercise on carrying out ethnic cleansing in Kashmir.
Brigadier (Retd) S.S.Saini paid rich tributes to those of Indian soldiers and officers who laid down their lives while defending the country's integrity and sovereignty. He said it was unfortunate that innocent civilians, including women and children, were tortured to death and gunned down. He said equally unfortunate was the way the tribals, supported by Pakistani troops, indulged in loot and extortion.
Two minutes silence was observed in memory of those who had been killed by the invaders in Kashmir in 1947.
Other speakers said that the tribal invasion had resulted in displacement of Kashmiri Hindus, including a large number of Sikhs. They said that 1989-90 was another tragedy that befell Kashmiri Hindus who had no other alternative but to migrate from Kashmir to save their lives and honour when militants paned the mouth of their guns.
