NAHEP-IDP SKUAST-J conducts training on nanotechnology

JAMMU, Aug 2: Under the Patronage of Honourable Vice Chancellor, Dr B N Tripathi, SKUAST Jammu conducted two days training programme on "Application of Nanotechnology in Agriculture: Opportunities and Challenges" on 1st and 2nd Aug, 2023 for the students of the university.
The training was conducted under National Agricultural Higher Education Project -Institutional Development Project (NAHEP-IDP) operational in SKUAST-Jammu. Among the latest technological advancements, nanotechnology occupies a central position as it offers many applications in all stages of production, processing, storing, packaging and transport of agricultural products.
The reduced use of herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers with increased efficiency, controlled release and targeted delivery are some of the benefits of the application of nanomaterial in agriculture.
In wake of growing importance of nanotechnology in agriculture and to equip the students with latest technical know-how in the field of nanotechnology, the said training was organized. Various pertinent aspects related to application of nanotechnology like climate smart nanofertilizers for sustainable agriculture, characterization of nanomaterial for applications in agriculture, monitoring of engineered nanoparticles in soil-plant system, entrepreneurship opportunities in agrinanotechnologies, application of nanotechnology in veterinary sciences etc were covered in the said training.
The expert lectures were delivered by resource persons from prestigious institutions of the country like Dr Anju Manuja, National Research Centre on Equines, Hisar, Dr Manoj Srivastava, Principal Scientist, Division of Environment Science, IARI, Pusa, New Delhi, Dr. Gaurav A Bhaduri and Dr Ashok Bera from Indian Institute of Technology Jammu, Dr. T.N.V.K.V. Prasad Agricultural University Nanotechnology Laboratory, A.P., India and Dr Sanjay Guleria and Dr Vikas Abrol from SKUAST-J. The programme was executed under the Chairmanship of Dr Rakesh Nanda, Director Education, Convenor, Prof Vikas Sharma, PI, NAHEP-IDP and conducted by Prof. Vikas Abrol Coordinator and Co-ordinators Prof Peeyush Sharma and Dr Vivak Arya. The participating students appreciated the content and topics covered in the training and requested for more such training programs in future.
