SCERT Jammu conducts 4-day workshop on recent trends in ELT

JAMMU, Aug 5: The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Jammu organized a four-day workshop on recent trends and approaches in English Language Teaching (ELT) from August 2 to August 5, 2023.
The workshop, held under the mentorship of Director Prof. Dr. Parikshit Singh Manhas and the supervision of H.R. Pakhroo, Joint Director of JKSCERT Jammu, aimed to create awareness about the latest trends and pedagogies in ELT as per the demands of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020).
The program targeted 40 newly promoted lecturers in English, four from each district, and sought to enhance their capacity to adopt current trends and approaches in English language teaching while delivering content in the classroom.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by H.R. Pakhroo, Joint Director of SCERT Jammu, along with other dignitaries, including Prof. Swarn Singh Jaral, Prof. Surjeet Kumar, Associate Professors NP Singh, Kishore Kumar (Head - AU-1), Romi Kumar, and Assistant Professors Mtr. Parveen Akther (Head of Library and Documentation Wing), Pushpa Kaith, and Dr. Sanjeevani from SCERT Jammu.
During the event, the Joint Director emphasized the importance of staying updated with changing times and adopting modern trends and approaches in language teaching, aligning with NEP 2020.
Resource persons from JKSCERT, including Monica Sharma, Nahida Anjum, Manisha Chun, Neeraj Jamwal, Rakesh Chobber, Jeevan Singh, Sushil Hitaishi, Sheikh Gulzar, and Dr. Balgar Singh, provided insightful sessions on innovative trends and approaches in English language teaching. Topics covered included teaching prose, poetry, writing skills, vocabulary, grammar, effective communication, and integrating ICT in English teaching.
The participants were enlightened on the use of innovative pedagogies in the classroom and the judicious selection of online teaching-learning resources for the students' best interests.
The program was well-coordinated by Manisha Chun (Academic Officer) as the coordinator, and . Monica Sharma (Academic Officer) served as the Associate Coordinator. Rakesh Chobber (Academic Officer) took charge as the technical coordinator, while the Academic Officers Bikram Singh, Ashok Sharma, Sabha Rasheed, and Bindia Bhalwal managed the program.
On the final day, participants delivered group presentations and shared their valuable feedback. The valedictory function was graced by Prof. Swarn Singh Jaral, Prof. Surjeet Kumar, Associate Professors. NP Singh, Sh. Kishore Kumar (Head - AU-1), Romi Kumar, and Assistant Professors Mtr. Parveen Akther, Mtr. Pushpa Kaith, and Dr. Sanjeevani from SCERT Jammu.
H.R. Pakhroo, Joint Director of JKSCERT, urged the participants to disseminate the knowledge and experiences gained during the program in the field, working in alignment with the vision of NEP 2020. The workshop concluded with a motivational speech by Kishore Kumar, Associate Professor, JKSCERT Jammu, and a vote of thanks by Monica Sharma, the Associate Coordinator of the program.
