| Congress gets into poll gear | | | Early Times Report New Delhi, Jan 26: The Congress Working Committee meeting here on January 29 will finalise the poll manifesto and party's strategy to prepare for the Lok Sabha elections, party sources said on Monday. The party expects the dates for the Lok Sabha elections to be announced anytime between February 15 and March 1 and the CWC will take stock of the poll preparedness of the party for the "gruelling election months" ahead, they said. "The draft manifesto will be submitted to the CWC and the Congress President," Chief Spokesman M Veerappa Moily said after a meeting of the Manifesto Committee headed by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee. The CWC is also likely to discuss the claims of various UPA allies like the SP, RJD and NCP for seat-sharing in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra respectively. With Mukherjee taking over the charge of West Bengal PCC from the ailing Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi, the CWC will also set the tone for a possible alliance with Mamta Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress in the Left bastion. The four states - UP, Bihar, Maharashtra and West Bengal - together will send 212 members to the Lok Sabha and it is crucial for the party to perform well there along with their allies to retain power at the Centre. The other states, where the party hopes to enter into an alliance with regional parties are Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, among others. The seat sharing formula in these states is also likely to figure in the discussions of the CWC.
