| Rs 4.60 cr spent under NREGS in Doda, Kupwara districts | | Jugal for judicious utilization of funds | |
Srinagar, September 19 – Under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) 741 works have been taken up in Kupwara and Doda districts at an estimated cost of Rs 4.60 crore, out of which, 230 works have been completed. In both the districts, 168053 families have been registered for wage employment and 150400 job cards have also been issued to the beneficiaries. This was disclosed in an officers meeting of Rural Development Department presided over by Minister for Rural Development Mr Jugal Kishore here on Tuesday. The meeting was informed that NREGS has been started in all the nine blocks of Kupwara district and nearly 200 works have been taken up under the scheme at a total cost of Rs 60 lakh. 65000 beneficiaries have been provided job cards in the district and so far more than 30 works have been completed. Likewise, in Doda district 103053 families have been registered under NREGS and 85400 beneficiaries have been provided job cards. 541 works have been taken up in the district at a cost of Rs 4.01 crore out of which 130 works have been completed so far. The meeting was informed that under NREGS, the beneficiaries are being provided jobs within their villages and in the event of non-availability of work in their localities they are provided employment in adjacent areas and for employment beyond five kilometer radius the beneficiaries are provided ten per cent additional wages. For registering the grievances of the beneficiaries a grievances registered is maintained in every panchayat halqa and redressal of the grievances is ensured within a week’s time. The meeting was further told that works taken up under NREGS include land development, water conservation, construction of lanes, drains, irrigation canals, flood protection works and afforestation. The meeting also reviewed the pace of development under SGRY, SSGY and PMRG. Addressing the meeting, the Minister impressed upon the officers to speed up the execution of works taken up under NREGS and launching a massive campaign in the identified areas so as to benefit more and more people. He also called for a close monitoring of the ongoing works under the scheme adding that proper utilization of funds available under NREGS be spent judiciously and properly. He also asked the officers to have a close coordination during the execution of rural development works and ensure maximum participation of the rural people for the purpose. Secretary RD, Mr M.S. Khan, Director RD Kashmir, Mr M.A. Bukhari and other senior officers of rural development department were present in the meeting. |
