| R-Day celebrated with patriotic fervor across Jammu province | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, JANUARY 26 :Like other parts of the country, 60th Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervor and enthusiasm across the Jammu division. Kathua-Deputy Chief Minister,. Tara Chand unfurled the National Flag and took salute at the biggest ever parade comprising of 52 contingents drawn from Police, CRPF, Forest Protection Force, Police Training School, Kathua, NCC and tiny platoons from various government/ private schools besides, Army pipers. While addressing the gathering, Tara Chand underlined the importance of the historical Day on which our country became a sovereign democratic republic, one of the best systems of governance prevailing in the world and the country adopted its constitution which provides equal rights to all nationals irrespective of religion, caste, creed and color. He also recalled the sacrifices of the great martyrs. Deputy Chief Minister specially lauded the efforts of Founder of the Constitution, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar in framing the constitution which gave equal rights to every citizen of the country and broke away the walls of social inequality and injustice. He said that in democracy, importance is given to the successful conduct of elections than to the party affiliations. In our state the formation of a coalition Government is a proof of the fact that democracy in this part of India is deep rooted and thriving, he added. Tara Chand said that on this auspicious Day, we pay our respects to the martyrs who laid down their lives for safeguarding the independence of the country. He said that electoral process in J&K, this time was purely for peace and development ignoring the poll boycott given by the separatists, people came out to vote in large numbers keeping in mind local issues like un-employment, education, healthcare and civic amenities. The common voters preferred development and peace over separation. He conveyed his special greetings to the members of armed forces who guard the frontiers on land, sea and air and also render remarkable assistance during natural calamities. He assured that the government would do its utmost to make the fruits of democracy and development available to all the citizens of the state particularly the kandi and border areas of Kathua, adding that the state has a very young Chief Minister who has a vision of development for the state. While cautioning against anti-India forces bent upon destabilizing the country, the Deputy Chief Minister said that our mother land is more precious than our own lives and our duty towards the nation comes first and there is nothing above the nation. We should pledge to uphold the spirit of solidarity and the multi- cultural, multi religious and multi- ethnic character of India. Similar functions were also held at tehsil headquarters including Basohli, Bani, Hiranagar and Billawar where SDMs and Tehsildars unfurled the National Flag and took salute from the march past. Colorful cultural programmes were also presented by the school children. At Samba, Minister for Industries & Commerce, Labour and Employment,. Surjit Singh Slathia today called upon youth to emulate the high ideals of our freedom fighters and founders of the Constitution and contribute in nation building. He said that at a time when the State is trying to improve its ranking on the development index, the people of the state should take initiative in rising above petty regional and social concerns to take the state forward to peace and prosperity.
The Minister was speaking after unfurling the national tricolor at the Republic Day function held in the premises of Government Higher Secondary School, Samba.
MLA, Samba, Mr. Yashpal Kundal, Deputy Commissioner, Samba, Mr. Saurav Bhagat, members of Municipal Committee, Samba, senior officers, school children, prominent citizens and large number of people from all walks of life were present on the occasion.
The flag unfurling was followed by march past by the contingents of Army, BSF, J&K Police, NCC, school children and ex-servicemen. Colorful cultural items based on patriotic theme were also presented by school children which kept the audience spell bound. In his address, Slathia recalled the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters in attaining independence and asked people to preserve the hard won freedom at all cost. Maintaining that India has registered tremendous progress in every field of life and achieved many a milestone after independence, Mr. Slathia said that still there are many challenges before the country which need to be addressed. Referring to the developmental activities initiated in the newly created district of Samba, the Minister revealed that new district headquarters complex is coming up at a cost of Rs. 44.33 crores. Similarly, Rs. 3.80 crore have been spent on upgrading Samba Hospital while renovation and expansion of Accidental Hospital at Vijaypur is being done at a cost of Rs. 1.60 crore. Ramgarh hospital has also been made hi-tech with all modern equipments by expending Rs. 3 crore, he added. Slathia said that the prestigious Central University is being set up in the district at a cost of over Rs. 500 crore which would transform the entire educational scenario of the area. Referring to the government’s resolve of tackling the problem of unemployment, the Minister said that jobs in the government sector are limited. He said that government is focusing on skill and capacity building measures to enhance job opportunities in private sector. He asked the educated youth to opt for self-employment avenues for which the government is also providing attractive incentives. The Minister also distributed mementos among freedom fighters and the gallantry award winners of the area. Prizes were also distributed among the children for their performance. Later, the Minister also unfurled national flag at Higher Secondary school, Vijaypur and addressed on the occasion.
Rajouri, In connection with 60th Republic Day celebration, a grand function was organized at Rajouri in which contingents of BSF, CRPF, ITBP, J&K Police and student cadets of various schools took part in the march past.
Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma unfurled the National Flag and took salute at the march past.
Legislators Rashpal Singh, Radhey Sham Sharma, Shabir Khan, Murtaza Ali, ex-Speaker Mirza Abdul Rashid, Ex- MP, Ch. Talib Hussain, Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri Sheikh Rafiq Ahmad, District and Sessions Judge, Rajouri, Commandants of CRPF and BSF, principal PG College, Principal ITI, President Municipality, senior, civil and police officers and prominent citizens also attended the function.
Addressing on the occasion, the Minister recalled the sacrifices given by great leaders and security forces for strengthening the bonds of secularism, democracy, brotherhood and amity in the country and said that India became Republic on this day in 1950. Students of various schools presented a cultural bonanza on the occasion. Meritorious sports persons and students were awarded with trophies and certificates by the Minister.
Udhampur, Republic Day was celebrated with full patriotic fervour by district administration at District, Tehsil and Block headquarters besides, educational institutions, Municipal Council, Udhampur, Government Employees Unions of PHE, PDD, political, social and volunteer organizations and Ex-Servicemen by unfurling the National Flag and distribution of sweets at every nook and corner of district Udhampur, today. The main function was, however, held in the premises of Government PG Degree College for Boys, Udhampur where the Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr. Ajay Khajuria who was the chief guest unfurled the Tricolor, followed by impressive march past comprising of 44 contingents drawn from District Police, SKPA, Forest Protection Force, NCC, NSS and different educational institutions. The students also presented a scintillating cultural programme based on patriotism, national integration, social evils and folk songs of different cultures of the State and country which got rousing response from the jam-packed audience, forcing them to give repeated cheers as a mark of appreciation. Physical display items, presented by the students also got loud applause from the gathering. The Youth Services and Sports Department distributed trophies to students who excelled in march past, cultural activities and other co-curricular activities. Refreshment was also served to students participating in R-Day parade function and cultural activities. Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy, (SKPA), Udhampur, Director, SKPA, Mr. Navin Agarwal took salute at a colourful parade. Speaking on the occasion, Agarwal paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters and those leaders who fought for a free, democratic, secular and independent India. He laid emphasis for better training to police force, particularly the J&K Police, which is apart from being involved in normal policing is also tackling terrorism. He lauded the role of those Police Officers who laid their precious lives in maintaining the security and integrity of the country by foiling the evil designs of anti-national elements. In order to prepare Police officers to face the challenges posed in J&K, he laid emphasis over different training programmes which have been undertaken, including computer and weaponry training Ramnagar, Tehsildar, Ramnagar, Narinder Khajuria unfurled the national flag and took salute at the march past comprising of 14 contingents drawn from different educational institutions in the premises of Government Higher Secondary School, Ramnagar, today
Poonch-Over 15,000 people participated in the Republic Day function at Poonch today, which was celebrated with great enthusiasm. Despite intermittent showers in between, the function was one of the best held in the recent history of Poonch district.
The District Development Commissioner, Poonch, Mr. Mohammad Afzal unfurled the national flag, inspected the parade and took salute at an impressive march-past from as many as 34 contingents drawn from Police, CRPF, NCC and various educational institutions, besides Army and Police bands.
Due to malfunctioning of the cotton string because of overnight rains, the flag did not unfold initially. However, the malfunction was immediately rectified and the function went off smoothly.
A scintillating cultural programme was also organized at the function, held at Boys Higher Secondary School ground.
Since today was also weekly crossing of the passengers at Chakan-da-Bagh, the district administration distributed sweets on LoC crossing point after the function was over.
The Republic Day functions were also held at Surankote, Mandi and Mendhar.
On LoC, Commanding Officers of the area also unfurled the national flag and schoolchildren presented colourful cultural programmes. Sweets were also distributed among the locals.
Doda, the Deputy Commissioner Doda, Syed Sharief-ud-Din unfurled the Tricolour followed by national anthem and took salute at a march past in which 22 contingents drawn from CRPF, JKP, JKAP, NCC, Forest Protection Force and students from various government and private institutions took part in the function.
Deputy Commissioner highlighted the achievements made in the field of education, health, road connectivity and other sectors in district Doda. He lauded the role of local people in maintaining the age old tradition of communal harmony and brotherhood in the region and hoped for such gesture in future also. He further greeted the people for their whole hearted participation in the recently held assembly elections.
On the occasion, the students of various schools of the district presented a colorful programme which was highly applauded by the prominent citizens, officers, students and teacher fraternity.
Later, prizes were distributed among the students for their performance in cultural programme and march past.
Similar functions were also held at tehsil headquarters Bhaderwah and Gundoh, where respective SDMs unfurled the National Flag and took salute at the march past.
Ramban, the Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Mr. A. D. Shanas unfurled the National Flag followed by impressive march past by the contingents of JKP, NCC and school children on the occasion. The students of various educational institutions presented cultural programme and got applause from the audience.
Similar functions were also held at Banihal and Batote.
Kishtwar, the main function was held in the Chowgan ground where the Tricolour was unfurled by the District Development Commissioner, Kishtwar, Mr. Sudershan Sharma who took salute at the march past presented by 17 contingents of JKP, JKAP, CRPF, Forest Protection Force, NCC cadets of Government High School (Boys) and GHS (Girls) Kishtwar and the students of various schools of the town.
While addressing the gathering, the DDC urged for strengthening the bonds of unity among all sections of the society.
A colourful cultural programme was also presented by the students of various schools of the district and its adjoining towns.
Reasi, the District Development Commissioner, Reasi, Mr. Sanjeev Verma unfurled the National Flag and took salute at the march past by the contingents of JK Police, JKAP, STC Talwara, Forest Protection Force, Scouts & Guides, NCC and various educational institutions of Reasi and its periphery.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Verma asked the general public to follow the foot steps of great freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Lal Bhadur Shastri, Netaji Subash Chander Bose, Bhagat Singh, Sukh Dev, Rajguru, Chander Shekhar Azad and others. He also exhorted upon the people to maintain communal harmony and mutual brotherhood.
13 educational institutions of Reasi and its surrounding areas presented scintillating cultural programme based on patriotism, national integration, communal harmony and mutual brotherhood on the occasion.
Similar functions were held at Mahore, Arnas, Chassana, Thakrakote, Pouni, Katra, Talwara, Jyotipuram and other places of the district where, SDM, Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars hoisted the National Flag and took salute.
R.S Pura, SDM R.S Pura, Mrs. Sheetal Nanda unfurled the Tricolour at Bana Singh Stadium and took salute at the biggest parade comprising of 22 contingents drawn from Army, NCC and school children of various Government and Private schools besides Army piper.
The students of various Government and Private Institutions presented colorful cultural programme based on patriotic theme.
Mrs. Nanda also presented trophies, consolation prizes to the best performers on the occasion.
Katra, Additional Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Mr. M. K. Dwivedi unfurled the National Flag and took salute at an impressive march past by the contingents drawn from JKP, NCC and students of various educational institutions.
The students of different schools also presented a scintillating cultural programme on the occasion.
Similar functions were also held in other areas of town where President Municipal Committee, Katra and Additional SP unfurled the National Flag.
