Srinagar, July 11 – Stressing the need for increasing the frequency of traffic on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad rad and opening of Suchetgarh-Silakote route to trade and traffic, Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Muzaffar Hussain Baig today said the opening of trade links across LoC would give the socieo-economic profile of the sub continent a big facelift and said soon the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road would be open to trade.
In an interview with a local news agency, CNS here today, Mr. Baig said resumption of trade on the LoC routes is on the priority of the present coalition government. He said already a list of 100 business men intending to visit Muzaffarabad and other places to explore the business possibilities has been sent to the Pakistan and hoped that a reply from them would come soon. He said Chief Minister, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad and former Chief Minister, Mr. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed have pursued the case of resumption of trade and traffic on the LoC with all seriousness. He said though the present pace of developments has slowed down a bit but hoped that things would be taken to logical conclusion by both India and Pakistan.
Mr. Baig said the former Chief Minister, Mr. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had a larger vision on prosperity and economic upliftment of people of the Indian sub continent and his efforts and dynamism helped in convincing the then Vajpayee government for a movement forward on the issue. He said though the coalition government during its almost four years in office has achieved a developmental turnaround in the state, Mufti Sayeed put the political agenda on the centrestage of Indian subcontinent and even changed the political idiom of Jammu and Kashmir. In reply to another question he said the all round development registered by the coalition government under Mufti Sayeed’s leadership was phenomenal which surpassed the achievements of previous five decades.
In reply to a question, the Deputy Chief Minister said Common Minimum Programme (CMP), which is a combination of political agenda and developmental initiatives, is the bible of governance for the coalition government. He said both PDP and Congress are committed to the implementation of CMP. He said the healing touch policy of the coalition government provided the much needed relief to the people which gave a new hope and generated a new beginning.
Describing PDP and Congress as Natural allies, Mr. Baig said the present era is that of coalition politics and hoped it would continue even after assembly elections of 2008. He said the coalition culture as initiated by the former Chief Minister has led to a sense of belonging among the people of all regions and sections of society in the state. He said though PDP represents the regional aspirations, National consideration is the dominant theme of the Congress. He said both the parties can have perceptional differences on many issues but it should not be taken as any serious differences. Such differences emanate from the difference in the respective political constituencies adding that PDP will continue to provide voice to the aspirations and the concerns of the people of state.
