| Handwara sex scandal takes U-turn | | Question mark on credibility of FASE, DeM, Handwara police | |
SRINAGAR, SEPT 19: Accusing Handwara police and Chief of Dukhteran-e Millet (daughters of faith) and proactive member of
Forum Against Social Evils (FASE) of slandering her character ‘under some criminal conspiracy’, a Burka clad girl ,Tuesday,
claimed that the Girl produced before the media by FASE was a ‘fake one’ and accused that the girl awarded by FASE is one
among the main perpetrators of the Handwara sex scandal. She also launched a Scathing attack on police blaming it of forcing her
to ‘name some valued personalities into the scandal’.
Making some revelations into the Handwara sex scandal, a Burka clad woman Rufi Jan Daughter of Khazir Mohammad Malik
accompanied by her brother Ab.Gani Malik told a press conference here that girl produced by FASE, some three days ago, was a
fake one.
“FASE has demonstrated one alleged victim Rukhsan D/O Sona Ullah Khan R/O Turkpora Handwara as most innocent and
chartered which has ultimately defamed me in order to hide her character”, Rufi said.
“I have been defamed under a criminal conspiracy in order to deprive me of all my social and legal rights by the police concerned as
well by the said lady Rukhsana managed by Asia Andrabi for her political purpose and benefit”, Rufi added.
To question what made her to come up before the media today, her brother said “two media persons who identified themselves as
reports of weekly newspaper approached my sister on 15th of Sept and told her that they have come to know that she has shown
tremendous courage by exposing persons involved in the Handwara sex scandal case and recorded her statement”.
He further said, “After three days he come to know that FASE has appreciated a girl namely Rukhsan D/O Sona Ullah Khan R/O
Turkpora Handwara and our whole family started to cry since she (Rukhsana) is the main perpetrator”.
Rufi accused police of forcing her to name some persons whom she does not know into the sex scandal.
“The investigating agency of the F.I.R No 191/2006/, Police Station Handwara, put me to various methods of torture to involve falsely
some of the persons whose name they suggested to me of whom neither I know nor I have ever seen them. They put me to torture at
the instance and in consultation with criminal intention of three girls namely Shammeema, Rafiqa and Rukhsana to involve innocent
persons.They forced me in violation of norms and law to involve some Nabba, Raja Mohi-ud-din and Mushtaq Sofi whom I have never
seen neither I know nor I have any affiliation with any of them”. She also showed the plucked hair and tortured marks on her body.
She further said “Due to my refusal to involve any of them or any other person whom Investigating Officer intended and wanted to
involve I was seriously put to torture but I resisted to do the same and did not follow their dictation. I was kept in illegal and wrongful
confinement by the police in police station Handwara for at least 13 days and was never produced before any magistrate”.
Recalling the woeful tale she said, “I had no connection with NGO and accidentally I come into contact with the main accused MAjid
Bhat, commonly known as Majid watch who told me that they have to open few more branches of the NGO and as such will have to
recruit few girls as teachers”. She said that on the fateful day, accidentally she happened to visit the main centre at Handwara to
enquire about the opening of the centers. She said that Majid watch told her that she has come at the right time and have to leave for
the srinagar where several officers from outside the state have reached which will be provide her with recruitment order and asked
her to board the Sumo stationed outside the office . “I board the sumo along with Majid, his son (Waheed) and three girls
Shammeema, Rafiqa and Rukhsana, thinking I will be back to home till evening”, she said . “Midway they changed clothes and
started to engage them selves in non-social activities and I asked these girls to restrain form wild activities after which they fumed
and threatened me”. Later I was taken to a hotel in Rajouri where they tried to attack me however I restrained and locked my self
inside the hotel bathroom and started to cry which attracted the manager of the hotel who informed the police”. She said that police
reached the hotel and evacuated her out of the bathroom and arrested the male persons in the hotel and handed the four girls to the
hotel manager. “Police next day arrested us (four girls) and later handed over to police station Handwara where I was to various
methods of torture to involve falsely some of the persons whose name they suggested to me, as I said”. She said.
At the end of press conference victim distributed copies of application which she had addressed to Director General of police.
