Early Times Report

Srinagar, Jan 27- To celebrate the golden jubilee year of public broadcaster Doordarshan in India, DD Kashir is presenting around 100 singers and musicians on a single platform from all the three regions of the state during a 5-day music festival titled 'Jugalbandi-Diffusion' that will commence on February 9.
A spokesman of DD Kashir said that the music festival will be held in Abhinav theatre Jammu following which similar musical bonanzas will be held both in Srinagar and Leh in July and August respectively.
"The 5 day music festival that will start on February 9 will be held to celebrate 50 years of Doordarshan in India in which around 100 artists from Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh will participate and all performances of the singers and musicians will be aired live on DD Kashir during the festival, a spokesman of DD Kashir said.
According to the officials of the DD Kashir the live music festival has more to offer other than performances by around 100 artists of the state.
"The main aim of the festival is to spread the message of communal harmony and brotherhood as there cannot be any other medium better than music to foster unity and sense of togetherness among the people," said Director Doordarshan Dr Rafeeq Masoodi on Tuesday.
Dr Masoodi said that the festival will bring artists from different regions of the state together and provide them a platform where they would interact, understand and learn art and music from their fellow artists therefore showcasing the rich culture of the state of Jammu and Kashmir in a blended form.
"The 5-day festival will highlight the rich forms of light, folk, sufiyana and diffusion music of the state. At the same time it will open and showcase the talent of our artists to the outside world and may provide a lifetime break to our singers and musicians as several corporate houses from Mumbai including SAREGAMA are also expected to participate in the festival," said Dr Masoodi.
According to the spokesman of DD Kashir the festival will be inaugurated by Governor NN Vohra on February 9 and several reputed artists including Abdul Rashid Hafiz, Vijay Malla, Waheed Jeelani, Deepali Wattal, Jeewan Sharma, Bashir Mastana, Parveena Bhanu, Manzoor Shah, Kailash Mehra, Rashid Farash, King Pal Singh, Gulzar Ganaie, Raja Bilal, Zulaikha and others will perform during the musical bonanza.
