| First Lady stresses on women literacy | | | Early Times Report Jammu Jan 27: Showering accolades on the fair sex of Jammu and Kashmir First Lady Mrs. Usha Vohra has said that young ladies are out of the world, they are as vibrant as colours and joy of living. She was addressing after inaugurating a special ladies cultural programme organized by Directorate of Youth Services and Sports at Abhinav Theatre as a part of 60th Republic Day celebrations. Congratulating the organisers for the impressive display of the cultural diversity of three regions of J&K, she said that unity in diversity and harmony that prevails here is a lesson by itself and makes Jammu and Kashmir a symbol of harmonized society. She stressed on the increasing female literacy and said that it was important for building a healthy society. She said that women folk should be fully equipped to play their role in the society and make them socially, politically and economically empowered. Only an educated female can run home in a better and hygienic way. Studies show that households having educated female have lower infant mortality rate, Mrs. Vohra maintained and added that every one should be particular about girl education. She also laid stress on greater mobilisation of resources for spreading education in remote areas. Various schools of city participated in the cultural bonanza and presented items on the theme of cultural diversity of the state. Mementos were distributed by the first lady to the participants. Present on the occasion, among others were Mrs. Zahida Khan, Director School Education Jammu and officials of Directorate of Youth Services and Sports. A large audience present on the occasion got mesmerized and enthralled by the cultural items presented by the artists highlighting the rich and varied culture of the state.
