BJP accused of failing to empower women in J&K: Rattan Lal Gupta
8/14/2023 10:16:20 PM
early times report
Jammu, Aug 14: Rattan Lal Gupta, the Provincial President of the National Conference, has criticized both the central Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government and the proxy BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir, accusing them of being a 'Jumla Government' and failing to empower women in the region. He expressed doubt that the BJP government, which has disempowered the people of the Union Territory by denying them the right to elect their representatives, will do anything positive for women's empowerment.
Rattan Lal Gupta made these statements during a joining function of the National Conference Women Wing in Jammu, held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan. He claimed that during its tenure, the National Conference led by Dr. Farooq Abdullah and later by Omar Abdullah, worked diligently to empower women in the region. He asserted that the National Conference has consistently championed equal rights for all sections of society.
Gupta mentioned that the National Conference government provided 50% reservation to women in medical colleges of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. He stressed the National Conference's unwavering support for the Women's Bill in the Lok Sabha and the importance of equal representation and opportunities for women in the political sphere.
Baljit Kour and Saroj Sharma joined the National Conference during the event. Bimla Luthra, State Vice President of the Women Wing, criticized the BJP for its policies, which she claimed have resulted in skyrocketing prices and inflation, causing difficulties for women who manage households. She urged the party's women cadre to work at the grassroots level to strengthen the National Conference.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary, stated that the National Conference is the only solution for empowering women in the region. He encouraged people, especially women, to vote for the National Conference in the upcoming polls in J&K, assuring that the party will work to empower women with their legitimate rights.
Among others present were Bushan Lal Bhat, Ex-MLC; Pardeep Bali, Provincial Secretary; Vijay Lakshmi Dutta; Harsh Vardhan Singh, President of NCSU; Th. Yashuvardhan Singh, Additional Spokesperson; and S. Tejinder Singh, District President Jammu Urban.
