Jammu, Jan 27: Despite persuasions from the government for cooperation, several organizations of state employees today went on their scheduled strike pressing for implementation of the recommendations of Sixth Pay Commission and increase in retirement age from existing 58 to 60 years. In different parts of state thousand state government employees under the banner of Joint Action Committee on Tuesday went on two day long strike paralyzing work in various government offices. Most of the offices wore a deserted look as dejected state government employees organised small protests and demonstrations in support of their demands outside their office buildings. People visiting state government offices for routine follow-up work failed to record their presence in most of the offices owing to employees strike. The portico of the Government medical college hospital echoed with slogans of employees demands for most part of the day. Large number of women employees also joined the stir and raised their demand. Para medics and hospital staff across state run government hospitals and public and community health centers also struck work and joined others in pressuring state government to implement recommendations of the sixth pay commission. Employees working in the Divisional Commissioner’s office, employees of Public health engineering department, JDA, Medical staff association and others joined the stir and mounted pressure on the state government to announce the date of implementation of the sixth pay commission recommendations. Several employees’ leaders spearheading the strike mobilized strong work force outside their government offices and demonstrated against the state government. Barring emergency services, the health care services were adversely affected at the government medical college hospital, chest disease hospital and several other health institutions. Pradeep Kumar Sharma, one of the leaders speaking on behalf of striking employees, warned state government against delaying implementation of the sixth pay commission recommendations and urged the senior state government officials to find an early solution to their grievances. Employees of Public health engineering department, medical employees association and JDA employees gave vent to their ire and blamed the state government of adopting delay tactics. The striking employees said, ‘we have waited for so long, now we do not want to wait, we want to see results and forward movement not just assurances’. Meanwhile, another faction of the state government employees under the banner of Joint Consultative Committee has called for statewide strike on January 28 and also blamed the state government for failing to resolve the issue of the employees and their long pending genuine demands.
