| Entire opposition critical of power scenario | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 29: Joining its voice to that of other opposition parties such as the BJP and CPI(M), the People's Democratic Party on Wednesday criticised the state government's failure to maintain power supply in the Kashmir valley and demanded implementation of sixth pay panel recommendations. "While money is available to the department for repairing transformers and augmenting low tension and high tension transmission lines, very little is actually happening and people are suffering as a result," PDP general secretary and MLA Nizamuddin Bhat said in a statement here.
Bhat said the general strike by government staff demanding implementation of Sixth Pay Commission recommendations had crippled the administration and further compounded the miseries of the common man. The government should immediately take a decision on the pay panel issue after discussion with employees and political parties, he said. The Jammu and Kashmir units of BJP and CPI(M) have already issued statements criticising the government for its failures on the power front and demanding immediate implementation of the sixth pay panel's recommendations. Bhat said the government should speed up utilization of funds for ongoing schemes and Deputy Commissioners should act on the advice of elected representatives so that money is spent for public purpose transparently and development works are completed as per target. He also demanded that rationalization of ration cards on merit be done on a priority basis as the really needy had been ignored so far.
