Symposium on "Drug Abuse" organized by Government Degree College Kathua

KATHUA, Aug 19: Government Degree College, Kathua, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, successfully organized a symposium centered around the crucial topic of "Drug Abuse" on the 19th of August 2023. The event took place in the college's smart classroom, aiming to raise awareness and facilitate discussions on this pressing issue. The symposium was convened by Prof. Shivani Kotwal, while Prof. Soup, the Literacy Activity Committee Convener, co-convened the event. The symposium saw active participation from various quarters, including Professor Bandhu Sharma, the Principal of Government Degree College, Katua; Tahsil Social Welfare Officer, Mr. Abdul Rahim; District Social Welfare Officer; and a total of 10 participants who engaged in discussions on the topic. The proceedings of the event commenced with a welcome address by Professor Shivani Kotwal, the Convener of the Literary Activity Committee. This was followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp and the rendition of Saraswati Vandana. Engaging in a spirited dialogue on the topic of "Drug Abuse," the participants eloquently shared their insights. The first position was secured by Vishal Gupta from the 3rd semester, while the 2nd position went to Alisha Malhotra, also from the 3rd semester. Shivani, from the 3rd semester, secured the third position. Consolation prizes were thoughtfully distributed to all the participants. Addressing the august gathering, Professor Seema Amir, the Principal of the college, shared enlightening words. She shed light on the "Nasha Mukt Bharat" initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Professor Amir highlighted the grave repercussions of indulging in such harmful activities, emphasizing that they adversely affect the students' physical and mental well-being. She urged students to channel their energy positively and contribute to the nation's development. The symposium concluded with a vote of thanks extended by Bandhu Sharma. The event served as an essential platform for raising awareness about the dire consequences of drug abuse and fostering a sense of responsibility among students. The collaborative efforts of the Government Degree College, Katua, and the Social Welfare Department reflected their commitment to creating a better and healthier society.
