Shri Ram Sena strongly condemns delays in renewal of gun licenses in Jammu

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 19: Shri Ram Sena, Jammu and Kashmir, has voiced strong objections and concern over the excessive delays in the renewal process of gun licenses within Jammu. Despite the recent lifting of the ban on issuing new arms licenses after a four-year hiatus in the Union Territory, the organization expressed profound disappointment at the prolonged delays in the renewal of existing licenses.
Rajiv Mahajan, the President of Shri Ram Sena, J&K, released a media statement today, highlighting the concerning state of affairs faced by gun license holders throughout the Union Territory.
Mahajan underscored the essential nature of armed licenses for security purposes and lamented the significant hurdles faced by license holders during the past six months in Jammu and Kashmir. Despite the government's possession of data on the existing arm licenses, the renewal process has been plagued by persistent delays, which are attributed to rampant corruption within the region.
He further emphasized that the current annual renewal fee for gun licenses is Rs 500 per gun, a substantial increase from the previous fee of Rs 60 per license for a three-year period. Despite the elevated fees, the administrative machinery has faltered in its duty to ensure timely renewal of gun licenses, resulting in immense difficulties for license holders who are compelled to visit the concerned offices repeatedly.
Expressing deep concern, Mahajan raised pertinent questions regarding the underlying reasons for the extensive delays in arm license renewal in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in the context of the lifted ban on issuing new arms licenses. He noted that even though the police verification process has been streamlined through an online system, the administration's responsiveness remains lacking.
Mahajan fervently called for the intervention of LG Sinha, urging him to address this pressing issue and launch an investigation into the baffling and unjustifiable delays in the renewal of gun licenses. The delays not only cause hardships for license holders but also contribute to undermining the trust in the administration's commitment to ensuring citizen safety and compliance with the law.
