Police seize poppy straw from suspects at naka point Tawi bridge Sidhra

JAMMU, Aug 19: A police naka party from PP Sidhra, accompanied by a female officer, was performing naka duty at the naka point near Tawi Bridge in Sidhra. At approximately 1:00 PM, two women were spotted heading from Nagrota to Sidhra while carrying bags. Upon seeing the police party, the women appeared to become suspicious and turned away. In response to their behavior, the in-charge of the naka along with the female officer halted them for questioning.
During the questioning, the women identified themselves as:
Sunita, wife of Sukhdev Singh, resident of Cheema, Amritsar, Punjab
Paramjeet Kour, wife of Love Preet Singh, resident of Reya Beas Cheema Bhati, Teh Baba Kalan, District Amritsar, Punjab
Upon inspecting the plastic bags in their possession, approximately 7 to 8 kilograms of a substance resembling poppy straw were found on Paramjeet Kour and Sunita. A total of 14 kilograms of poppy straw were seized from both suspects.
Subsequently, a case was registered based on this information under FIR No. 344/2023 U/S 08/15 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Nagrota. This action highlights the vigilance of the police in Sidhra to curb the illegal possession and trafficking of narcotics, contributing to the safety and security of the region.
