Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 20: Natrang, renowned for its innovative theatrical productions, showcased the thought-provoking political satire "Topian," penned by Mani Madhukar and directed by Neeraj Kant. The performance took place at Natrang Studio Theatre as part of the Sunday Theatre Series. The play ingeniously comments on the contemporary political landscape of the nation, casting a critical eye on politicians who shift allegiances and principles merely to retain power.
"Topian" unravels the deceptive tactics of politicians, likening their adaptability to that of a chameleon's color-changing abilities. These politicians master the art of manipulating the public through theatrical displays of changing personas, attires, and ideologies based on the situation. Throughout history, societies have witnessed multiple social and political revolutions, each accompanied by new political ideologies. Yet, paradoxically, familiar faces tend to occupy positions of power, merely camouflaging their true intentions behind new facades.
The narrative unfolds with two neighbors determined to transform the political landscape by seeking alternative options. Their encounters with various individuals, each adorned with distinctive caps and manifestos, symbolize their changing allegiances. Ultimately, they unveil the truth - that these individuals are the same beneath their façades, employing diverse tactics to manipulate public perception.
The play masterfully underscores the unchanging nature of politicians. They remain constant, shifting only their appearances and public personas to deceive the masses. Their friendships and enmities fluctuate based on their pursuit of power, demonstrating their readiness to compromise principles for personal gain.
"Topian" posed a significant challenge to Natrang's young actors, who remarkably embodied their characters and captivated the audience. The roles of the two neighbors were portrayed by Abhimanyu Choudhary and Sumit Bandaral, with Vedhant Suri providing substantial support. Neeraj Kant handled the lighting, while Chirag Anand contributed the music for the play. The play's publicity was designed by Vanshika Pandoh, and the coordination of the show was overseen by Mohd. Yaseen. This satire resonates as a poignant commentary on the political world's intricate gamesmanship and duplicity.
