| Panthers to move resolution for refugee rights | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 28- The Panthers Party has decided to move a resolution in the Assembly during ensuing the budget session seeking constitutional measures for grant of citizenship rights to refugees from West Pakistan settled in Jammu for the last 60 year. Stating this Panthers Party general secretary, Harsh Dev Singh, today said that the grant of citizenship rights to Pak refugees has been hanging fire for the last several decades and despite promises being made by the Congress and other parties the fate of these refugees continues to hang in balance. He said since the Congress shares power with the National Conference “I expect support for my resolution from the ruling alliance also”. He said that these refugees have been receiving a raw deal and it is irony of fate that they are eligible for voting in the Lok Sabha election but not for the Assembly election. They do not have proprietary rights of the land and houses allotted to them nor their wards can seek admission in professional colleges .They are not even eligible for seeking Government jobs. This injustice needed to be removed, he added.
Harsh Dev said that he has decided to table another resolution which could ensure at least one member of each family a job in the Government departments or unemployment allowance to educated unemployed youth.
He said the Panthers Party will table a bill seeking lifting of the embargo in setting up delimitation commission. He said the bill will seek amendment to the constitution so that the stage could be set for setting up fresh delimitation commission for the purpose of increasing the number of Assembly seats in the Jammu region in particular.
