Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 22: The Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association, under the leadership of President Sr. Advocate Vikram Sharma, conducted a press conference to address pressing issues concerning the Sarore Toll Plaza and faulty smart electric meters.
The Association strongly called upon the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to address the genuine concerns of the public and commuters using the Jammu-Kathua segment of the National Highway. Despite recent floods causing damage to this section of the highway and rendering it unfit for use, the Sarore Toll Plaza continues to collect toll fees. President Vikram Sharma emphasized that toll collection should be suspended at the Sarore Toll Plaza until the damaged highway section is restored for safe travel. He expressed confidence that the NHAI and Ministry of Road and Transport will acknowledge the public's grievances and take prompt action.
Sharma also expressed concern regarding inaccuracies and inflated bills generated by smart electric meters, as reported in recent press coverage. He assured that consumers have diligently paid their electricity bills, regardless of meter type, but emphasized the need for the meters to accurately reflect the consumed units to avoid undue financial burden. Additionally, Sharma appealed to the administration to broaden the exemption criteria for property tax and simplify the calculation method for the convenience of the general public.
The press conference featured other key members of the Association, including Amit Gupta (Vice-President), Parvesh Singh Salaria (General Secretary), Chetan Misri (Joint Secretary), Utkarsh Pathania (Treasurer), Rohit Sharma (President, Young Lawyer Association), Gagandeep Singh Lucky (Vice President, YLA), Yaseer Farooq Khan (General Secretary, YLA), Karanjeet Singh Johal (Joint Secretary), and Naresh Kumar (Treasurer). The Association's collective efforts highlight their commitment to addressing public concerns and advocating for improved governance and citizen welfare.
This press conference demonstrates the Association's dedication to fostering positive change and ensuring accountability for public welfare issues in the region
