Smoking-a curse: symposium in Kathua

KATHUA, JAN 30: As a part of Government’s anti Tobacco Drive and as a follow up of the directions issued by District Development Commissioner, Kathua, Ms. Mandeep Kaur for conducting seminars, mushairas and debates to aware the masses about the ill effects of Tobacco and drugs, District Information Centre, Kathua, in collaboration with Janki Elementary Teachers Training and Research Institute organized an- inter college symposium on the topic “Smoking –a curse”. at Kathua today.
Chief Education Officer, Kathua, Mr. R.P. Gandotra was the chief guest while Managing Director (Honorary) Janki, ETTRI and presided over the function.
Principal of the institute, Sardar Amrik Singh, teachers, students of different ETT colleges were present on the occasion.
About 12 students of different ETT institutes participated in the symposium. They explained how smoking affects the health of the smokers and also its ill affects on the non- smokers. They said that the smoking not only affects the health but it also lets to the financial loss.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief guest, Mr. R.P. Gandotra appreciated the initiative of Information Department in organizing the symposium on the topic. He advised the students to keep away from smoking and taking drugs, He said that the students were pillars of the nation and these pillars should be strong enough to bear the load of responsibility of the nation. Drugs are the slow poison which spoil the health of the drug addicts and spread diseases like Asthma, cancer, TB etc, he added.
The judgment of the symposium was conducted by Renowned Surgeon, Dr. A.K. Gupta and Shri Sunil Dutt Shad.
Seema Devi of Narsingh Dev ETT institute bagged the first position while 2nd position was secured by Ravi Kant of Janki EET institute. Third position was shared by Skhjinder Singh of Janki ETT and Jatin Singh of Nav Bharat ETT institute.
Momentos and certificates were also given to the participants by the Information Department.
Later, the vote of thanks was presented by Managing Director Janki ETT institute.
