GDC Mahanpur celebrates birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand on National Sports Day

MAHANPUR, Aug 29: In honor of the Birth Anniversary of the legendary Major Dhyan Chand, renowned Indian hockey player and National Sports Day, the Government Degree College (GDC) Mahanpur conducted an inspiring National Sports Week celebration. Under the astute guidance of Dr. Sangeeta Sudan, the college's Principal, and the diligent coordination of the Department of Sports led by Dr. Balbinder Singh, the week witnessed an array of sports events.
The anniversary ceremony took place today, with the proceedings expertly overseen by Prof. Arvind Kumar. Dr. Sangeeta Sudan and Dr. Balbinder Singh addressed the students, emphasizing the significance of sports and physical activities in shaping well-rounded individuals. They also shared the remarkable achievements and contributions of Major Dhyan Chand, a sports icon of India.
The event commenced with heartfelt floral tributes paid to the revered Indian hockey player, Padma Bhushan awardee Major Dhyan Chand, by Dr. Sangeeta Sudan, Principal, and Dr. Balbinder Singh, Physical Director, along with the college staff members and students. The occasion also featured a digital showcase of Major Dhyan Chand's autobiography, allowing students to gain insights into his extraordinary journey.
On this occasion, the college took the opportunity to honor outstanding students who have excelled in both academics and sports. The Principal lauded the dedication of the college's management and students in successfully organizing the event. Dr. Balbinder Singh, the college's Physical Director, played a pivotal role in orchestrating the event, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from a substantial number of students and staff members.
The commemoration was graced by the presence of faculty members, including Prof. Arvind Kumar, Sh. Saurabh Dutta, Prof. Meena Devi, Dr. Hilal Bhat, Ms. Suman, and Dr. Parshotam Dass, all of whom added to the spirit of the occasion.
