GDC Marh marks National Sports Day with Spirited Fit India campaign

MARH, Aug 29: The spirit of sportsmanship and physical well-being came to life at Government Degree College (GDC) Marh, as the institution observed National Sports Day under the banner of the Fit India Campaign. The Department of Physical Education and Sports, in collaboration with the NSS unit, orchestrated a dynamic two-day event from August 28th to 29th, 2023, in honor of Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary hockey player.
Under the guidance of the esteemed Principal, Prof. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul, the college organized a vibrant intramural competition that featured three engaging games: Chess, Badminton, and Carrom. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of both the 5th and 3rd semesters. Prof. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul graced the event as the chief guest and inaugurated the competition by tossing the coin. In his address, he encouraged students to actively partake in various sports and games.
The event also saw all participants and staff members taking the Fit India pledge, further underscoring the commitment to physical fitness and well-being.
In the Chess competition, the podium saw Abhishek Bhagat and Vrochan Singh (Sem 5th) securing the Bronze Medal, while Aayush Kumar (Sem 5th) claimed the Silver Medal. The Gold Medal in Chess was clinched by Aayush Shan (3rd Sem).
In the Carrom competition's women's section, Payal Kumari and Roshni Bhagat from Sem 5th secured the Bronze Medal, while Sheetal & Komal (3rd Sem) took home the Silver Medal. The Gold Medal was triumphantly won by Neetu & Roshni from (B.A 5th Sem). Among the men, Parveen Kumar & Pankaj (5th Sem) claimed the Silver Medal, while Lakhbir Singh & Yogesh (B.A 5th Sem) proudly secured the Gold Medal.
In Badminton, the women's category saw Monika from Sem 3rd earning the Silver Medal, while Kanchan Sharma from Sem 3rd soared to victory with the Gold Medal. In the men's doubles category, Parveen Kumar and Aayush Kumar from Sem 3rd secured the Silver Medal, and Sanjay Radha and Abhishek Kumar from Sem 3rd displayed remarkable teamwork to clinch the Gold Medal.
The event was effectively organized by Mr. Ravi Kumar, the Physical Training Instructor, along with Asstt Prof. Anjan Chib (Convenor Sports), Asstt Prof. Sachin Bhagat (NSS PO), Asstt Prof. Dr. Shakun Sharma, and Dr. Sheetal Sharma. In a spirited demonstration of camaraderie, a match between the faculty and staff added an extra layer of motivation for the participating students.
The event saw a significant participation of 70 students, all of whom were provided with refreshments. Certificates of participation and merit were duly awarded to the students who actively engaged in the spirited competition.
GDC Marh's observance of National Sports Day echoed the principles of the Fit India Campaign and encouraged students to embrace physical fitness and healthy competition in their lives.
