GDC Ramgarh celebrates National Sports Day 2023 with zeal and enthusiasm

RAMGARH, Aug 29: Govt. Degree College Ramgarh (GDC Ramgarh) recently organized a vibrant series of activities to commemorate National Sports Day 2023, celebrating the birthday of the hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. The event was a resounding success, engaging students in a variety of sports and fun activities that highlighted the importance of physical fitness and teamwork.
Under the guidance and coordination of Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra, the Principal of the College, the Sports Committee meticulously orchestrated a range of activities to promote a healthy lifestyle among the students. The event featured two sports activities, Carrom and Volleyball, along with two entertaining games, Lemon Race and Langadi Game.
The festivities kicked off on August 26, 2023, with the exciting Lemon Race and Langadi Game. Ritika Manhas secured the first position in the Lemon Race, followed by Shavi Malhotra in second place and Jannat Dogra in third. In the Langadi Game, the top spot was claimed by Kirandeep Kour from Semester 3, while Varsha Salaria secured second place, and Anjali Dogra and Ritika Manhas jointly clinched the third position.
On August 28, 2023, the focus shifted to the intense Carrom Game competition. Rahul Kumar emerged victorious, bagging the first prize, followed closely by Vimal Singh in second place. The third prize was won by Pankaj Kundal, showcasing their exceptional skills and strategic prowess in the game.
The celebrations culminated on August 29, 2023, with a friendly match that pitted students from Semester 3rd against those from Semester 5th. The match was a display of not only athletic prowess but also camaraderie and sportsmanship, as students participated with remarkable zeal and enthusiasm.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra emphasized the pivotal role of sports in our lives. She urged students to actively engage in sports events as they contribute to physical strength, mental well-being, and personality development. Dr. Sandeep Kumar, Convener of the Sports Committee, recalled the initiation of the Fit India Mission by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 and highlighted this year's theme - 'Sports are an enabler to an inclusive and fit society'.
The event's organizing secretary, Prof. Risha Kumari, shed light on the significance of the National Sports Day, which celebrates the legacy of Major Dhyan Chand. She encouraged students to embrace sports activities for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The event witnessed the presence of esteemed faculty members, including Dr. Aditi Khajuria, Prof. Seema Sharma, Dr. Shamsher Lal, Dr. Sandeep Kumar, Prof. Risha Kumari, Dr. Ekta Rani, Dr. Rahul Kundal, Dr. Shivali Choudhary, and Dr. Priya Sharma.
The National Sports Day celebration at GDC Ramgarh showcased the college's commitment to promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and the spirit of healthy competition among its students.
