Power employees to go on protest leave due to apathy

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Electrical Engineering Graduates Association (JKEEGA) of the Power Development Department, led by Sachin Tickoo, President of JKEEGA, announced their decision to go on a 24-hour protest leave on September 9th to protest against the inordinate delay in filling vacant positions within the department. The delay has adversely affected the morale of the officers and the delivery of public services.
In a press conference held at Press Club Jammu, the JKEEGA representatives expressed their frustration over the lack of action by the government despite commitments made under the agreement dated December 21, 2021. This agreement was signed between representatives of the government and the power employees after four days of confrontation. Sachin Tickoo highlighted the step-motherly treatment faced by engineers in the Power Development Department due to the delay in promotions. More than 750 vacancies exist across various levels in the engineering cadre, from Managing Director to Junior Engineers. He emphasized that promotion files for all cadres have been pending for months and are being tossed between the office of the Chief Secretary and the administrative department. The situation has resulted in multiple charges being assigned to officers, severely affecting the delivery of services. Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers, Assistant Executive Engineers, and Junior Engineers are burdened with additional charges, impacting their ability to fulfill their duties efficiently. The delay in regularization proposals and lack of regular promotions have further exacerbated the situation. The protest leave on September 9th is aimed at drawing attention to these issues and urging the government to address the grievances promptly. The JKEEGA hopes that this action will push the authorities to take necessary actions to fill vacant positions and improve the overall functioning of the Power Development Department.
