Politicians, school children, social workers pay rich tributes to Gandhi

Jammu, Jan 30- Several functions marked the observance of 61st martyrdom of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, which is also being observed as anti-leprosy day.
Former Congress ministers turned up in large number to pay rich tributes to father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his death 61st death anniversary at Mubarak Mandi complex.
Besides, congress leaders several other leaders including MY Tarigami, Dr Mustafa Kamal, RS Chib, Divisional commissioner Jammu Sudhanshu Pandey and several hundred school children and social activists paid glowing tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and took pledge to work efficiently and honestly in their fields.
Led by former deputy chief minister and senior congress minister Mangat Ram Sharma, former minister Jugal Kishore Sharma, Gulchain Singh Charak, GM Saroori and others attended the public function.
Speaking on the occasion Pt Mangat Ram Sharma and Gulchain Singh Charak paid rich tributes to Gandhiji and motivated school children to follow the path of truth to scale new heights in their career.
At a separate function in Satwari, Education Minister Peerzada Mohammed Sayeed paid tributes to father of the nation and advised common people to lead a peaceful and simple life by following principles and life style of Gandhiji. Several social workers and those who have adopted Gandhian thought attended the function and paid their humble tribute to Gandhiji.
Mahatama Gandhi’s Martyrdom was observed in the Seminar Hall of Jammu University by Sarvodaya International Trust and Gandhian Centre. Vice Chancellor Jammu University, Professor Varun Sahani was the Chief Guest and Prof Ved Ghai was the Guest of Honour. The function started with the floral tributes to the Father of the Nation, Two minutes silence was observed in the memory of Martyr Gandhi while a documentary on Gandhi was also screened on the occasion.
Prof Sahani highlighted the contribution of Gandhi and the significance of Martyr’s Day. Prof Ghai elaborated on the life and the principles of Gandhiji and urged the youth to follow the Gandhian values.
Dignitaries present on the occasion included K M Wani Commissioner Secretary Higher Education, Prof B P S Sehgal, Roma Wani, Prof Rita Munshi, Prof Kiran Sumbli Bhan, Prof Ashok Aima, Prof Tripathi, Prof Tiwari, I D Soni, Dr Kishore, Dr Malvinder, Prof Abha Chouhan,Ravinder Singh, Dr Raza, Dr V K Bhutyal, Tahir K Raina and faculty of the University and members of civil society.
The state unit of National Students Union of India (NSUI) also organized a function at Ved Mandir, Bal Niketan Amphala where Parshutam Sharma, Office Secretary, Bal Niketan was the Chief Guest and Rashid Choudhary State President NSUI J&K presided over the function.
The program started with singing of National Song (Vanday Matram) and Gandhiji’s bajans after which two minutes silence was observed by all to pay homage to the father of the nation on his death anniversary which is also observed as anti- leprosy day. NSUI activists and children also garlanded the portrait of Gandhiji and paid floral tributes. Later NSUI activists interacted with the 125 orphan children, belonging to far flung areas of the State. The NSUI activists distributed fruits, stationary items and shared a cup of tea with the inmates to show solidarity with the effected children.
Speaking on the occasion Parshutam Sharma, Chief Guest of the function urged the children and youth to work for the revival of Ghandian way of life in the society. He said that to get rid of the complicacies of modern life Gandhian philosophy is the best tool. He further advised the youngsters to adopt a simple living and high thinking approach in life to attain the individual’s and nation’s success.
In his presidential address Rashid Choudhary reminded the youth that Ghandian way of life is the evergreen, everlasting and all time relevant philosophy of life, which is in harmony with all the major religions of not only India but of the World. He said today’s troubled world finds a ray of hope in Gandhiji, who sacrificed and dedicated his life to society and the country.
He said the teachings and philosophy of the Father of the Nation has more relevance today when the world is facing threats from the disruptive and extremist forces.
‘Taking inspiration from Bapu, we have to tread along the path of goodwill and truth. We have to live and die with the spirit which is in the interest of the masses and for the welfare of the masses’, he said.
Those who were present on the occasion included Ifthkar Ahmed, Charanjeet Singh Chiku, Varun Mangotra, Arjun Singh Pathania, Raj Kamal Arya, Sushant Gupta, Bageshwar Sharma, Sumit Kotwal, Ankush Raina, Tarun, Ronik and Buvish Sharma.
