| Use fuel supplies judiciously: Slathia | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, JAN 31: Minister for Industries & Commerce, Labour and Employment, Mr. S. S. Slathia has called for judicious use of oil and gas in nation's interest and also stressed the need to conserve these products as they are largely imported from foreign countries. He also asked the concerned authorities to make people aware about the unconventional sources of energy so that the pressure on oil and gas supplies is reduced. Slathia was speaking at a valedictory function, organized by the leading oil companies in connection with the observance of Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight, here today. The programme began on January 15, 2009. Slathia said that India is emerging fast on the world map as an industrially developed nation and requires energy supplies in abundance to meet its full potential. He said that industrial development is intertwined with energy requirement and ensuring supplies of oil and gas to the sector is necessary for the country to sustain its surge at the global level. Stressing the need for launching vigorous awareness drives with the involvement of educational institutions, environmentalists, social organizations and intellectuals, Mr. Slathia said that these campaigns should cover rural areas as well so that the people in these areas are also made cognizant about the judicious use of these precious products. He also suggested various other means for conserving fuel. In his valedictory address, SLC, J&K, Mr. Vikas Behl, detailed different aspects of oil and gas conservation and the current happenings in India with regard to fuel refining capacity. He said during the fortnight, different activities were undertaken which included awareness campaigns through seminars, discussions and clinics to educate people about ways and means of conservation, essay competitions, slogan writings, symposia and paintings at different places with the involvement of schools and college students, besides Scouts and Guides on the theme of oil and gas conservation. Later, Mr. Slathia distributed prizes amongst the participants.
