GDC holds debate competition on ‘Bhrashtachar Mukt Bharat’

Kathua, Sept 6: Government Degree College in Kathua organized a debate competition on the theme ‘Bhrashtachar Mukt Bharat’ (Corruption-Free India) to commemorate this important initiative. The event was held on September 6, 2023, and saw active participation from students aiming to address the issue of corruption in India. The event was graced by the presence of Professor Seema Mir, the Principal of the college, who served as the chief guest, and Professor Raj Kiran, the Guest of Honour. The program commenced with a warm welcome address by Principal Seema Mir, who outlined the objectives and format of the competition. She applauded the efforts of the Literary/Debate/Symposium Committee, led by Prof. Shivani Kotwal as the Convenor and Dr. Shub Kumar as the Co-convenor, for organizing the event. Speaking on the significance of ‘Bhrashtachar Mukt Bharat,’ which is celebrated across the Union Territory from September 4 to 10, 2023, the chief guest stressed the urgency of eradicating the menace of corruption, which has deeply rooted itself in society. She emphasized the importance of creating a corruption-free society and advised students to abstain from engaging in corrupt practices in the future. Ten students from various academic streams participated in the competition. Dr. Shub Kumar, the Head of the Department of Sanskrit, and Dr. Chetna Gupta from the Department of English served as the judges. The winners were announced, with Vishal Gupta from Semester IIIrd securing the first prize, Natasha Mehra from Semester Vth receiving the second prize, and Maroof Choudhary from Semester Vth clinching the third prize.
