EARLY TIMES REPORT

KHOUR, Sept 6: Ram Savak, Director Horticulture Jammu, presided over a Gram Sabha meeting in Lower Narayana, Khour, as part of the “Brashtachaar Mukt JK Week” initiative. The meeting aimed to address issues related to the overall development of the Panchayat and provide a platform for farmers, PRI members, and representatives of various departments to voice their concerns and discuss progress.
Tehsildar Khour, Smt. Monica Sharma, and a significant number of farmers, including women, participated in the event, along with PRI members, including Sarpanch L. Narayana, Smt. Sharda Devi, and representatives from various government departments.
During the meeting, Director Horticulture Jammu reviewed the progress of various development works undertaken by different departments and listened to public grievances. Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu, Sh. Ashwani Sharma, MCC Sh. Uttam Chand, HDO Sh. Amit Saraf, and other senior officers from different departments provided insights into their respective department’s schemes and initiatives.
Sh. Ram Savak briefed the farmers about various centrally and UT-sponsored schemes in the horticulture sector. He emphasized the region’s potential for horticultural crops due to favorable agro-climatic conditions and called for collaboration between PRI members and field functionaries to double farmers’ income. He discussed the Holistic Agriculture Development Plan (HADP) and its execution with PRI members.
As part of the event, Director Horticulture Jammu initiated a plantation drive by planting a mango sapling for compact plantation in a farmer’s field in Gurha Jagir, Akhnoor, covering an area of 20 kanals. He interacted with farmers and highlighted the potential of horticulture cultivation for sustainable growth and economic prosperity. He encouraged farmers to form Self Help Groups (SHGs) for setting up small fruit and vegetable processing units with financial assistance from the department, which can contribute to increasing family income.
The “Brashtachaar Mukt JK Week” initiative seeks to promote transparency, accountability, and efficient governance while addressing various developmental issues in Jammu and Kashmir.
