| National Nutrition Week celebrated in GDC, Kathua | | | Early Times Report KATHUA, Sept 7: In a bid to raise awareness about the significance of nutrition and healthy eating habits, Government Degree College (GDC), Kathua, celebrated National Nutrition Week with a series of activities sponsored by the J&K Science, Technology, and Innovation Council. This annual nutrition event, initiated by the Food and Nutrition Board, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, witnessed enthusiastic participation from seven colleges and more than 100 students. The event, organized by the Science Club of GDC, Kathua, included a Guest Lecture by Dr. Deepshikha, a Dietician from Government Medical College, Kathua, an Intercollegiate Symposium, and an Intercollegiate Poster Making Competition. The entire initiative was conducted under the mentorship of Principal Prof. Seema Mir and coordinated efforts of Ms. Sunita Razdan, Joint Director of J&K Science, Technology, and Innovation Council, Prof. Rakesh Singh, Convener of the Science Club, and Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Organizing Secretary and Nodal Officer. The event commenced with the lighting of lamps by Chief Guest Prof. Seema Mir, alongside distinguished guests including Prof. Rakesh Singh, Deepshikha, Prof. Jaswinder Singh, Prof. Raj Kiran, and others. Prof. Seema Mir, Principal of GDC, Kathua, emphasized the need for adopting healthy eating habits, cautioning against the allure of tasty yet unhealthy foods. She commended the efforts of the Science Club and thanked the J&K Science, Technology, and Innovation Council for their support. Prof. Rakesh Singh, Convener of the event, welcomed all participants and stressed the importance of awareness programs in a time when processed foods often replace home-cooked meals. He underscored that healthy eating habits play a crucial role in overall health and national development. Deepshikha, the resource person, delivered an informative talk on current health and lifestyle trends, encouraging attendees to become trendsetters for healthy eating. She also discussed the pros and cons of excessive internet use and emphasized the importance of dedicating time and energy to one's health. In the symposium, Tania Sharma from GDC Kathua secured the first position, followed by Manvi and Prakriti from GDC Kathua in the second and third positions, respectively. Sukriti, Vishal, and Sakshi, also from GDC Kathua, received consolation prizes. The jury comprised Prof. Jasvinder Singh, Dr. Pankaj Gupta, and Dr. Ambica. In the poster-making competition, Khem Raj from GDC Kathua claimed the first position, while Bhoomi from GDC Kathua and Shivangi from GCW Kathua secured the second and third positions, respectively. Deepti from GCW Kathua, Poonam from GDC Hiranagar, and Kajal from GDC Kathua received consolation prizes. The judging panel included Dr. Anupma Arora, Dr. Surya Partap Singh, and Prof. Neha Mahajan. The event was skillfully conducted by Dr. Archana Bhatt, Assistant Professor in Home Science, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Pankaj Gupta. Several other faculty members from participating institutes also attended the program, making it a resounding success in promoting awareness about nutrition and healthy living. |
