Jammu, Jan 31 : A constable of Jammu and Kashmir Police was today arrested after he opened fire with his service weapon over a land dispute in Janipur area on city outskirts, police sources here said.
''The accused, identified as Constable Gourav Sharma (Belt no: 1329), posted in Security Wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police was involved in a dispute over a piece of land with another party,'' Mr Shiv Dev Singh Chouhan, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jammu West said.
Chouhan, however, said the accused opened fire in the air against another party in the dispute, namely Sushma Devi, resident of Janipur.
''The accused has been arrested and weapon of offence (pistol) has also been seized. A case under section 307 of Ranbir Penal Code has been registered against him,'' Mr Chouhan added.
