Khoda promotes 14 cops for bravery

JAMMU, JAN 31: In order to boost the morale of police personnel, the Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda today issued orders of out-of-turn promotion in favour of 14 police personnel for their bravery in fighting militancy in the State and saving life and property of the people.
In the first phase, these 14 personnel are from Srinagar and Doda districts, Mr. Khoda said, adding that names of the other police personnel are in the pipeline and will be announced shortly.
The DGP said that all those police personnel who have been in the forefront of anti-militancy operations and have put their life at stake for the safety of the people will be honoured.
Giving details of the performance of these brave jawans of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Mr. Khoda said that they have been selected for their outstanding performance during 86 operations in various anti-militancy incidents in Srinagar and Doda districts during 2007-2008. As many as 78 militants, including top self-styled commanders of various outfits, were eliminated and 54 other militants were captured, besides huge cache of arms and ammunitions was recovered from the encounter sites.
Elaborating, the DGP said that 13 constables have been given one-rank promotion and promoted as Selection Grade Constables (Sgcts) and one Head Constable has been promoted as Assistant Sub Inspector.
The DGP said militancy continues to be an area of concern and all ranks in the force are determined to tackle the menace in every corner of the State firmly and in a more professional manner.
He said constant operational pressure on the terrorists would be maintained so that lasting peace is established in the State. During last year, JKP succeeded in neutralizing more than 350 militants and self-styled commanders and other terrorist leaders in anti-militancy operations across the State, Mr. Khoda said, adding the force has made a mark in the entire country for its fight against militancy.
