Ugly face of Jehad
Woman lodges FIR against arrested militants for rape; many come with molestation charges

Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 31: In a case, perhaps first of its kind in entire militancy history of Jammu and Kashmir, a woman and her husband from a remote village in upper reaches of Bhaderwah today took an affront against a mighty group of four militants and lodged FIR against them for forcible sexual exploitation.
A courageous Nazira Begum (name changed) along with her husband Mohammad Shafi today approached the Police in Bhaderwah and sought to lodge an FIR against a hardcore militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba, already in the custody of Bhaderwah Police. The Police asked the couple that since militant was already in custody and there was no need of a fresh FIR, the couple insisted and said that if they were not heard they would approach the Court for a case against the militant.
“What had prompted Nazira and Shafi to lodge FIR against an arrested militant was the information they got about arrest of LeT ultra Imtiyaz Bhat alias Abu Saad”, a Police Officer told the Early Times over phone from Bhaderwah. Abu Saad was arrested by a party of Bhaderwah Police led by Sub Divisional Police Officer Abdul Qayoom Choudhary on January 18.
Shafi is a nomad currently camping in upper reaches of Bhaderwah. On coming to know of Abu Saad’s arrest, he descended down to Bhaderwah, along with his wife and wanted to lodge an FIR against the already arrested militant. He told Police that his wife has long been a forcible victim of four militants led by Abu Saad who had been committing rape on her for several months.
In his statement to SDPO Qayoom Choudhary, Shafi said, “the group of four militants had almost kept us captive and would always confine me in forcible isolation to commit rape on my wife”. He said that when his wife was pregnant with a five months fetus, the militants beat her up mercilessly as why she had conceived. She was forced to terminate the pregnancy, said Shafi.
The story of couple’s acute harassment did not stop here. After terminating Nazira’s pregnancy the militants arranged condoms (to avoid another pregnancy) and continued to commit rape upon her several months. When Police asked the couple as why they took so long on lodging a complaint, they said, “we were almost in their captivity and we could come to Police only after knowing that their commander has been arrested”.
The other accomplices of Abu Saad have been identified as Aashiq Hussain alias Abu Umer, Mudassir Hussain alias Abu Furqan and Mohammad Ashraf alias Abu Jehadi.
On statement of the couple, the Police produced the arrested militant before them who was duly identified by Nazira Begum, the hapless of victim of barbarianism. The Police later produced the couple before Judicial Magistrate Bhaderwah and their statement was recorded under Section 164A. A fresh FIR number 12/2009 was lodged against the arrested militant under section 376 and 452 of RPC 7/25 of Indian Arms Act.
Following the courageous act of this couple in exposing the ugly face of Jehad, Police sources said, many men and women from different villages of Bhaderwah were coming forward with charges of molestation against militants.

The arrested militant Imtiyaz Ahmed alias Abu Saad and also known as Saidullah is believed to be close associate of LeT ‘district chief’ Ashiq Hussain. On his arrest on January 18, the Police has recovered from his possession one Chinese pistol, one HE-36 grenade and six pistol rounds.
