Unscheduled power cuts plague border areas, farmers suffer: Congress leader Taranjit Singh Tony
9/8/2023 10:58:59 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 8: Congress leader and District Development Council (DDC) member of Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony, has expressed deep concern over the ongoing issue of unscheduled power cuts in border areas, particularly affecting farmers. Tony highlighted the severe impact these power outages have on the agricultural community and called for immediate measures to alleviate their suffering.
During the inauguration ceremony of the road blacktopping project from Fathu Chak to Gharana, Tony stressed the urgency of resolving the power crisis.
He emphasized that farmers play a crucial role in the nation’s economy, and their well-being is vital for overall growth and prosperity. However, the unpredictable and erratic electricity supply in border areas, resulting in unscheduled power cuts, has made it increasingly difficult for farmers to manage their crops and livelihoods effectively.
Tony expressed deep concern about the dire consequences faced by farmers due to these frequent power outages. They disrupt daily agricultural activities and significantly impact crop productivity. Farmers heavily rely on electric-powered machinery, water pumps, and irrigation systems, making them particularly vulnerable to these power cuts.
Tony extended his appreciation to Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta for approving the double-lane road project from Suchetgarh Octroi post to Gharana. He highlighted the challenges faced by the people of Gharana due to migratory birds, which consume a substantial portion of cultivated land, causing financial losses for farmers. Tony called for the government to announce an employment package for affected farmers to compensate for their losses and prioritize them in employment opportunities.
The Congress leader held the BJP government responsible for the current situation, asserting that they are solely accountable for the chaos. He reiterated that the Congress party is the solution to address the various issues faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Tony demanded the immediate commencement of work on the double-lane road project from Octroi Post in Suchetgarh to Gharana Wetland, emphasizing its importance in boosting tourism in the border area.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by local leaders, including Sarpanch Sham Lal Bhagat, Kannu Chadwal, Naib Sarpanch Roshan Lal Bhagat, Heera Fouji, and prominent citizens of the area.
