| PDD continues to furnish faulty bills penalizing hapless consumers | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 1- Despite issuing computerized bills, the Power Development Department has failed to bring discipline in their own working and continue to penalize hapless consumer for none of his faults. On any given day, branches of JK Bank, where power consumers deposit their power bills, refuse to accept the bills issued by the PDD on the basis of faulty readings. Seasoned consumers who maintain their records well face more hardships than casual ones on account of anomalies. On many occasions if for some valid reason a consumer fails to deposit his/her bill on due date, the PDD computerized billing format carry forward the bill amount despite receiving the payment before the issue of fresh bills. Due to this prevailing anomaly in the billing system the consumers have to rush from pillar to post to get their bills reissued despite having receipt of JK Bank in their record. The JK Bank branches refuse to acknowledge their own receipts and pass the buck on the PDD and ask for separate bill. When contacted senior PDD officials said they have not started networking of their billing centres with the centralized server of the JK Bank to record fresh updates before issuing fresh bills and matching the records. The PDP official said that the best solution is to avoid delay in payment of bills to avoid faulty bills. We have started an awareness campaign to educate consumers to pay their bills in time to avoid disconnection and hardships.
