| Sham launches 2nd round of PP Campaign & JSY scheme from Akhnoor | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, FEBRUARY 01 – Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma today launched second round of pulse polio campaign from Sub-District Hospital, Akhnoor by administering oral polio drops to several children up to five years of age, including a three-hour-old infant.
Director, Health Services, Jammu, Dr. Jasbir Singh, Project Director, RCH, Jammu Dr. Kulbushan Pandotra, Chief Medical Officer, Jammu, Dr. Shahid Rehman Mughal and Block Medical Officer, Akhnoor, Dr. Rakesh Gandotra were present on the occasion.
People were found standing in queues at various Pulse Polio Booths (PPB) eagerly waiting for their turn to administer polio drops to their wards. In addition to paramedical staff of health department, a large number of ICDS workers, Rehbar-e-Sehat teachers, NGOs, Rotary Club and social activists voluntarily took part in the campaign to make it a big success. Army, CRPF and BSF too had set up their PPB in far-flung areas.
The Health Minister was informed that 10,239 PPB with 40,956 workers have been set up in the State for administering polio drops to children. He was further told that 2053 supervisory staff, 352 transit members and 705 mobile teams have also been put on duty to monitor and supervise the campaign to eradicate polio from the State. He was told that 25.14 lakh oral polio vaccine doses have been procured and distributed in urban, rural and remote areas of the State.
Mr. Sharma also launched Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) in Sub-District Hospital, Akhnoor by distributing a cheque of Rs. 1400/- as incentive to a woman namely Smt. Rita Devi for delivering her baby in Government Hospital. Mr. Sharma said that the scheme was withheld for quite some time and has now been re-launched after the present Government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah took over. The scheme envisages to encourage womenfolk to prefer Government Hospitals for their deliveries.
Later, Mr. Sharma attended a public darbar at Akhnoor and met a cross-section of people to redress their grievances.
Several demands putforth by the people included upgradation of health centres, primary schools, augmentation of drinking water, power supply and other basic amenities.
The Minister was accompanied by a team of sectoral officers and directed for redressal of demands within a fixed timeframe on-the-spot so that people in general are benefited.
