Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 11: In a significant development under the Jammu Smart City initiative, Shri Rajinder Sharma, the Honorable Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation, inaugurated the Sulabh Toilet Complex at Hari Market, Jammu, on September 11, 2023. The project, which includes 4 W.C's (water closets) and 4 urinals, was completed at a cost of Rs. 17.85 lakhs (Rupees Seventeen lakhs Eighty-Five thousand only).
The inauguration ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including Shri Gopal Gupta, Chairman of the Swachh Bharat Committee of Jammu Municipal Corporation, and Smt. Sandhya Gupta, Honorable Councillor of JMC in Ward No. 15.
This state-of-the-art Toilet Complex has been constructed under the auspices of Jammu Smart City Ltd. and handed over to the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for the benefit of the public. The maintenance of this facility will be overseen by the Sulabh International Social Service Organisation, J&K Branch, on a pay-and-use basis for the next 10 years.
During the ceremony, Sanjay Kumar Thakur, Honorary Additional Controller of Sulabh International Social Service Organisation, J&K, welcomed Honorable Mayor Sh. Rajinder Sharma and provided insights into the sanitation activities conducted by Sulabh International throughout India.
Mayor Rajinder Sharma, the chief guest of the event, commended Sulabh International Social Service Organisation for their outstanding work in the field of sanitation services across India. He highlighted that this project fulfilled a long-standing demand of the local residents, as the absence of toilet facilities had forced people to defecate in the open.
The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of Shri Saroj Kumar Jha, Honorary Deputy Controller of SISSO J&K Branch, Executive Engineer of JMC, Technical Officer of JMC, AEE of JMC, Executive Engineer of Jammu Smart City, JE of JSC, President of the Market Association at Hari Market, shopkeepers, senior leaders, media representatives, members of the police administration, and dedicated Sulabh volunteers. The event concluded with a vote of thanks to all involved in making this project a reality.
