Early Times Report
RAMGARH, Sept 12: On September 12, 2023, Government Degree College (GDC) Ramgarh initiated a month-long celebration to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti 2023. The college organized a special screening of movies and media focusing on the life and works of Mahatma Gandhi. This event also aimed to raise awareness about "Nasha Mukt Bharat" (Drug-Free India) and "Bhrashtachar Mukt J&K" (Corruption-Free Jammu & Kashmir), aligning with India's presidency in G20 and the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The entire program was conducted under the able guidance and coordination of Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra, Principal of the College.
Prof. Risha Kumari, the Convener of the event, began by enlightening the students about the significance of the event, which was organized to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. She emphasized Gandhi Ji's pivotal role as the preeminent leader of India's independence movement, achieved through nonviolent civil disobedience. This approach became a global symbol for peaceful protesting and civil rights movements.
The media screened during the event provided a profound glimpse into Gandhi Ji's prolific life and his unwavering commitment to India's independence. It also highlighted his influence on civil rights and freedom movements worldwide. Prof. Kumari stressed the importance of celebrating "Bhrashtachar Mukt J&K Week" and underscored how the shift to online services has fostered transparent, accountable, and accessible governance, ensuring timely service delivery and grievance redressal.
Dr. Sandeep Kumar addressed the students, shedding light on the social and health hazards associated with drug abuse. He encouraged students to embrace a drug-free life and society while also urging them to guide their friends away from the dark path of drug abuse.
The event drew a large number of students who actively participated in the celebration. Other esteemed faculty members present at the event included Dr. Aditi Khajuria, Prof. Seema Sharma, Dr. Shamsher Lal, Dr. Ekta Rani, Dr. Rahul Kundal, Dr. Priya Sharma, Dr. Paramjeet Kour, Dr. Shivali Choudhary, Dr. Sahil Kumar, and Mr. Anil Kumar.
GDC Ramgarh's initiative to kickstart Gandhi Jayanti celebrations with a focus on social issues like drug abuse and corruption signifies the college's commitment to holistic education and nurturing responsible citizens. It also serves as a reminder of the timeless relevance of Mahatma Gandhi's principles in our modern world.
