Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 13: Even as the Indian Army lost a six year-old tracker dog, on September 12 in terrorist's fire in Narla area of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, the female Labrador, Kent was a part of the strategically crucial Operation Sajuligala. Kent, who was from the 21st army dog unit had been active in the anti-terror operations in the area for quite a while and given her extraordinary skills to combat terror she was chosen for the Operation Sujaligala, a codename of the operation to weed out terrorists from the Rajauri area.
“Army dog Kent was at the forefront of 'Operation Sujaligala'. Kent was leading a column of soldiers on the trail of the fleeing terrorists. It came under heavy hostile fire. While shielding its handler, it laid down its life in the best traditions of the Indian Army," an Army statement said.
Sources said the canine was carrying hi-tech gadgets with the GPS in a leader belt as she chased the terrorists who were fleeing in the dense forests. The data from the devices she was carrying is believed to have been of crucial importance for the security grid.
Kent is the third such chaser dog killed in anti-terror operations in the last around a year. Last year, Axel and Zoom were killed in similar encounters in J&K.
The sources in police Kent gave major lead about the precise location of the fleeing terrorists in the gunfight which resumed September 13 morning.
Two persons including a terrorist and a soldier were also killed in the initial encounter, which resumed with heavy gunfight this morning. The second terrorist was killed on Wednesday morning.
The officials said the search-and-cordon operation was launched in Patrara in Rajouri district on Monday following the suspicious movement of two persons. A few rounds were fired as the security forces chased the suspected terrorists.
After the terrorists managed to escape, the operation spread to nearby areas, and the forces reached Narla village on Tuesday.
Personnel from the security forces have recovered a bag with some clothes and other items, which were left behind by the suspected terrorists.
