| Illegal urban constructions: Deputy CM order probe | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, FEB 1: Expressing concern over coming up of illegal constructions and encroachments at different locations in the Jammu city, especially along the bypass road, Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Tara Chand today ordered an enquiry under District Development Commissioner, Jammu on the status of unauthorized constructions and encroachments. Tara Chand also directed the Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation to allow construction work of Government and private buildings only after they submit the required construction drawings and obtain proper permission. He also asked the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation to submit a detailed report about the ongoing construction works within the municipal precincts and instructed the concerned authorities to collect the required developmental fee from different Government buildings coming up in winter capital. The Deputy Chief Minister, who is also the Minister in-charge of Housing and Urban Development Department and Municipality, issued these directions here today while inspecting various Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) works. The city areas checked by the Deputy Chief Minister included Talab Tillo-Bohri Road, Company Bagh, Uttam Nagar, Sainik Colony, Narwal and adjoining areas. District Development Commissioner, Jammu, Mr. M. K. Bhandari, Vice-Chairman, JDA, Mr. P. K. Poley, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Mr. Parshotam Sharma, Chief Engineers of PHE and UEED, Director, ERA and other senior officers accompanied the Deputy Chief Minister. While inspecting the ongoing works at Talab Tillo-Bohri Road, Mr. Tara Chand directed ERA authorities to complete the construction of box culvert by mid-February, which will enable early reopening of the road for regular traffic. The ongoing work is part of Rs. 19.43 crore drainage package for Talab Tillo and adjoining areas. He also issued on-the-spot instructions for completion of all allied works at the site on time. Reviewing the status of tube-wells, sump-tanks and overhead tanks under construction by ERA at different sites here, the Deputy Chief Minister directed the authorities to work in double shifts to make up for the time lost last year. Tara Chand said that augmenting urban infrastructure is the top priority of the Government and all line and executing agencies have to work overtime to come up to the expectations of the people.
