| Qadri to be new AG | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 1: The government is reported to have cleared the name of senior advocate Ishaq Qadri for appointment as Advocate General of Jammu and Kashmir. A formal order to this effect is, however, yet to be issued. Sources said that the Government has approved Qadri’s name and an order may be issued on Monday. Qadri’s appointment as Advocate General comes after resignation of the incumbent DC Sharma who was appointed as Advocate General by the Governor’s administration. Sharma resigned few days after installation of the popular government, paving way for appointment of new AG. Appointment of Advocate General and other Government advocates have always been almost political in nature. Qadri’s appointment is purely a National Conference choice and sources claimed that the Congress was not consulted on the issue. Few prominent lawyers enjoying patronage of senior Congress leaders and few others were lobbying for the post but National Conference leadership is believed to have sealed their fate by agreeing to go ahead with the Chief Minister’s first choice. “Before making its final choice at least state government should have taken feedback from the senior High Court Judges over their choice of candidate for the top constitutional post”, a seasoned lawyer demanding anonymity said.
