| J&K Schools likely to get unique subjects | | | Munish Gupta Jammu, Feb 1: Widening the career options and paving a way for gainful employment, the School Education department is likely to add some non-conventional subjects in the curriculum of higher secondary schools by upcoming session. Director School Education, Zahida Parveen Khan said that there has been some proposal on the introduction of new subjects during the ongoing session from Board of School Education but the final decision to this effect has not been taken yet. She further told that addition of new subjects in the list during the session will be decided at a high level meeting between the Board of School Education (BOSE) and the Department of School Education which is likely to take place shortly. She also added that the meeting will cover all the aspects and also go through several proposals mooted to this effect, besides discussing some other problems. The introduction of the new subjects would also depend on the availability of the requite teaching staff, she said and maintained that all these issues would be discussed in detail with the Board authorities .She said that the introduction of new non- conventional subjects will depend on the suitability and requirements of the area. Meanwhile, Commissioner- Secretary School Education GA Peer confirmed that the list of the non-conventional subjects may be increased in the schools. He said that right from 2004 the process is on and we have introduced many of these subjects like Zoology, Microbiology, Functional English and Computer sciences. He said that as there are four subjects compulsory in 11th and 12th standard and the students have to choose one noncoventional subject compulsory as optional subject. The list of these non conventional subjects may be increased this time, he added.
