PUNJAB, Sept 15: The Punjab State Information Commission (PSIC), in collaboration with the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab, has taken a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability in governance. They have jointly initiated a Free Online Certificate Course on the Right to Information Act, 2005. Under the esteemed guidance of Suresh Arora, IPS (Retd.), Chief Information Commissioner of Punjab, all the State Information Commissioners, and Prof. (Dr.) Anand Pawar, Officiating Vice-Chancellor of RGNUL, Punjab, this course is set to empower citizens with the knowledge and tools to exercise their right to information.
The online certificate course is available in three languages: Punjabi, Hindi, and English, making it accessible to a wider audience. Its primary objective is to create awareness about the provisions of the Right to Information (RTI) Act and to elucidate the process of requesting and providing information. Additionally, this course will delve into effective strategies for implementing the RTI Act.
A significant aspect of this initiative is its focus on sensitizing Public Information Officers and First Appellate Authorities, who play a pivotal role in the dissemination of information under the RTI Act. The goal is to ensure that all existing and future officers in these roles complete this course, thereby enhancing their understanding of the RTI Act.
The Right to Information Act, enacted in 2005, empowers individuals to access information held by government and public authorities. A well-informed citizenry is crucial for fostering a transparent and accountable society and for promoting fair and effective governance. This free online certificate course has been launched with this vision in mind, aiming to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Right to Information Act 2005.
It's noteworthy that the course is offered free of charge, and upon successful completion, candidates will receive an online certificate. By imparting knowledge and skills related to the RTI Act, this initiative is poised to contribute significantly to informed citizenship and participatory governance.
