Engineers celebrate Birth Anniversary of Sir M Visvesvaraya

JAMMU, Sept 15: Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre celebrated the 162nd birth anniversary of the renowned engineer Sir M. Visvesvaraya, Bharat Ratna, with a special event held at its Institutional Complex in Jammu. The event featured H Rajesh Prasad, IAS, Principal Secretary to Government, Power Development Department, J&K Govt., as the Chief Guest, and was attended by numerous engineers from various departments and organizations.
This day is observed nationwide to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, one of India's greatest engineers.
Er. Sachin Tickoo, Honorary Secretary, extended a warm welcome and expressed gratitude to Shri H Rajesh Prasad, IAS, for gracing the occasion as the chief guest.
Prof. Dr. Bhawna Sharma, FIE, Chairman, IEI, Jammu Local Centre, delivered a welcome address, recognizing Sh. Rajesh Prasad's distinguished services in various capacities during his tenure in the national capital territory of Delhi and other important positions. She also extended a special welcome to senior engineers who have exhibited dedication and passion for their profession, contributing to the success of the day's celebrations.
Er. Rabinder Shekher, FIE, paid rich tributes to Sir M. Visvesvaraya on behalf of IEI, Jammu Local Centre. He highlighted the exemplary qualities of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, such as austerity, integrity, competence, and discipline.
In a special recognition ceremony, Er. Lalit Mengi, FIE, Retd. Chief Engineer, R&B & Retd. Managing Director, Housing Board, was honored with the IEI Award for his outstanding contributions to the engineering profession and to the Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre. He received a Gold Medallion as a mark of respect.
Er. Rabinder Shekher, FIE, was awarded the D. K. GUPTA Engineer of the Year award for his lifetime achievements in the engineering profession.
IEI, Jammu, also presented several awards, including the R. L. Sharma Memorial Gold Medal to Er. Ajay Sharma for presenting the Best Technical Paper, the Rudra Bhagwati Silver Medal to Er. P K Nanda for presenting the 2nd best technical paper, and the IEI Bronze Medal to Er. Joy Ganjoo for presenting the 3rd best technical paper during the year 2022 - 23.
The event also acknowledged the active participation of students from GCET and MIET on World Engineering Day and Energy Conservation Day, presenting merit certificates and participation certificates to deserving individuals.
Additionally, the first issue of the 21st Volume of the quarterly IEI Jammu News, the newsletter of Jammu Local Centre, was unveiled by the chief guest in the presence of the Editorial Board, comprising Prof. Dr. Bhawna Sharma, Chairman cum Editorial Director, Er. P. K. Nanda, Er. Anil Verma, Er. Pooja Wazir, and Er. Sachin Tickoo, Hony. Secretary.
