GMC Kathua celebrates Foundation Day with grandeur; Jammu Mayor Rajinder Sharma chief guest

KATHUA, Sept 15: Government Medical College (GMC), Kathua, commemorated its Foundation Day on September 14th, 2023, with an array of festivities and significant contributions to the community. The celebration witnessed the gracious presence of Rajinder Sharma, the esteemed Mayor of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Jammu, as the Chief Guest.
The event was an epitome of collaboration, with Sh. Bhupinder Kumar (IAS), Secretary to the Government, Health and Medical Education Department, Jammu/Srinagar, addressing the gathering through a live video conferencing session. He emphasized the pivotal role of GMC Kathua in shaping the healthcare landscape of the region.
Distinguished dignitaries, including Raghunandan Singh, Vice Chairman of the District Development Council (DDC), Shivdeep Singh Jamwal, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua, and Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Director Coordination of New Government Medical Colleges, added to the event's significance by highlighting the institution's critical role in the community's well-being.
A notable highlight of the celebration was a thought-provoking lecture by Dr. Vijay Tadia, Deputy Medical Superintendent at PGIMER, who discussed the "Management of Healthcare Challenges and The Changing Role of Hospitals." Dr. Tadia's expertise shed light on the intricate dynamics of healthcare administration and the evolving challenges faced by healthcare professionals.
The day commenced with a noble initiative-a Plantation Drive-signifying GMC Kathua's commitment to sustainability and environmental consciousness. Faculty, staff, and students actively participated, contributing to a greener and healthier future for the region. Subsequently, fruits were distributed to patients admitted in different wards of Associated Hospital, GMC Kathua.
Dr. Surinder K. Atri, Principal of GMC Kathua, presented the Annual Report for the Year 2022-23, highlighting the institution's remarkable achievements, milestones, and advancements in medical education, research, and healthcare services.
The celebration reached its zenith with captivating cultural performances, including Dogri Dance, a skit depicting the challenging journey of NEET aspirants and parental pressures, soul-stirring solo singing and guitar performances, an electrifying Punjabi Bhangra performance, and a powerful rendition of the "Shiv Tandav."
Dr. Vineeta Sawhney, Chairperson of the Cultural Committee at GMC Kathua, guided the organization of the cultural event.
Dr. Raj Rishi Sharma, Head of the Department of Surgery at GMC Kathua, concluded the event with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all attendees for their invaluable contributions to the Foundation Day celebration.
