RAJOURI, Sept 15: In a proactive effort to enhance road safety and minimize road mishaps within the district, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal, convened a pivotal meeting of the District Road Safety committee.

At the outset of the meeting, the District Roll out Manager, Pankaj Sabharwal, delivered a comprehensive presentation on i-RAD/e Dar, elucidating the multifaceted facets of road safety and the proactive steps being taken to curtail road accidents in the district.
Additionally, it was disclosed that a total of 287 accidents have been recorded in the district since July 2022, all of which have been documented and uploaded onto the i-RAD platform for comprehensive analysis and action. The committee extensively discussed awareness campaigns, the establishment of a trauma center, the identification of black spots, and the installation of crash barriers, among other crucial measures aimed at bolstering road safety.
The Deputy Commissioner while emphasizing the paramount importance of widespread public awareness, underscored the significance of averting road accidents, injuries, and fatalities. He encouraged the stakeholder departments to champion a culture of mutual respect among road users, emphasizing the imperative need for drivers to prioritize safety precautions for themselves and fellow citizens.
The Deputy Commissioner mandated medical checkups for all drivers employed by private schools providing transportation services. This measure aims to prioritize the health and safety of these drivers and the students they transport.
He also called for a thorough safety audit of all privately owned vehicles used for school transportation. This audit is crucial to ensure the safety of students and the reliability of these vehicles.
In a resolute move to enforce road safety norms, the DC asked the Traffic and Motor Vehicle Departments to hold special drives to rigorously monitor traffic rule violations and to impose stringent penalties on offenders.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to the promotion of road safety and the overall well-being of the citizens of the district. These comprehensive measures, discussed and endorsed during the meeting, are being executed with full force, effectively transforming road travel within the district into a safer and more secure experience for all.
