Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 16: On the occasion of World Ozone Day, observed every year on September 16th, the Jammu & Kashmir Pollution Control Committee (PCC) organized a special event involving students and teachers from various eco-clubs of schools in Jammu. The theme for this year’s World Ozone Day was “Fixing the ozone layer and reducing climate change.”
The event featured a keynote address by Dr. Shweta Yadav, Senior Assistant Professor at Central University, Jammu, who is also a Fulbright Alumna and member of INYAS. In her talk, she highlighted the success of concerted national and international efforts in the recovery of the ozone layer. Dr. Yadav provided valuable insights into ozone-depleting substances and discussed actions that can be taken to reduce their usage. The UN-backed Scientific Assessment Panel to the Montreal Protocol on Ozone-Depleting Substances has confirmed the phase-out of nearly 99% of banned ozone-depleting substances.
Following the lecture, an interactive session took place, where students enthusiastically participated. The J&K PCC recognized and felicitated students and teachers for their active involvement in the event. Several officers from the J&K PCC attended the event.
During the event, participants expressed their commitment to making lifestyle changes aimed at mitigating pollution in general and protecting the ozone layer in particular.
World Ozone Day serves as a reminder of the importance of global cooperation and environmental conservation efforts to address climate change and protect our planet’s ozone layer.
